All the energy providers charge for a daily standing charge (DSC) for the provision of Gas and Electric supplies. The DSC varies between energy providers and also which of their tariffs. This year the DSC appears to be in excess of 20p per day for either gas or electric. You could, therefore, be paying over £146 per year to energy providers in addition to the cost of your gas and electric. In this day and age, I cannot see any reason as to why a DSC should be levied, as it seems to go back to the days before consumers were given the choice of energy provider. I also believe that the DSC is also one way that the energy providers can increase tariff prices and gain extra revenue,yet state they have cheaper energy tariffs. This DSC should be abolished.

At a time when wages are not keeping up with rising prices, many are struggling to survive financially each month, food, fuel and other essentials are costing more each week(whatever politicians tell us -I bet not many of them do the food shopping!!) to have this extra money in our pockets and not in the grasping electricity company coffers is essential. Lets raise the issue loudly to them to clean up their act.

From 20th October 2019 VAT on solar panels will increase from 5% to 20%. Despite declaring a climate emergency, the government has cancelled payments for electricity uploaded to the grid by micro producers.These changes make solar panels uneconomical to install. The VAT on fossil fuels including coal & gas will remain at 5%. At present airfare carbon taxes are not used specifically to promote and develop renewable energy.

Range anxiety is a very real concern to motorists tempted to make the switch away from dirty fossil fuel powered vehicles. At the moment there is a huge variety of ways to access public charging points but most of them require separate apps or membership or separate cards. I want to be able to access any charging pod and use my existing credit or debit card to make the payment, exactly as I would if I visited a petrol station. If the government wish to meet their obligations under the climate change agreements they have signed, this would be a simple piece of legislation to encourage the changeover to electric vehicles.

Man-made climate change is scientific fact [1]. It is a national security problem unprecedented in scale that requires radical action. Without action we will see severe environmental and social damage like drought, famine and mass displacement of people within our lifetime. We want change. Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) are contracts where government pledges public money to private investment plans, reducing the financial burden on the private company and attracting investors to the UK. With the recent collapse of public-private nuclear energy deals at Wylfa and Moorside, we the undersigned ask the government to reconsider its energy policy. Passing legislation prohibiting the government from investing in the construction of new fossil fuel and nuclear energy infrastructure projects will help phase out these environmentally damaging technologies [2]. The future of energy is carbon neutral and renewable and it's time government policy reflected this. Renewables have the potential to meet our energy needs [3], but the sector lacks the public investment that the fossil fuel industry enjoys [4]. Around 151,200 liters of fuel is used every year from Formula one cars. This is a ridiculous amount of CO2 released into the air. We need to have much less carbon dioxide so we try to fight the ever growing issue of global warming.

If it is wrong to wreck the climate, then it is wrong to profit from that wreckage. We believe that governments that serve the public good should cut their ties to the fossil fuel industry. There is currently a campaign asking MPs to pledge to support the divestment of Parliament from fossil fuels.This has already happened in the Irish Parliament and has had a massive effect in changing public opinion and making them aware of the devastating effect that the fossil fuel industry has on the environment. If only 20% of the proven fossil fuel reserves are burned, we will not be able to keep within the UN's target of 1.5 degree temperature rise, and any more than this will cause catastrophic and irreversible climate change. This makes the drive towards fracking utterly non-sensical, as fracking is part of the problem and not part of the solution. Divestment from fossil fuels is an essential component of limiting climate change, because we cannot afford to be investing in such a damaging industry. Just 100 companies, many of which are fossil fuel companies, contribute 71% of carbon emissions worldwide. I am asking you please to sign the parliamentary pledge at the earliest opportunity. It will send an important message to other MPs if you do so. If you are not prepared to sign it, I would like to know the reasons why you do not share the view that this is an essential step in the process towards limiting climate change.

We are killing our planet, choking oceans, swimming in rubbish and are even consuming microplastics due to our the way we treat this long-lasting – sometimes everlasting – material. We chuck it away, and it's out of sight, but, no, it doesn't magically disappear. And it can't all be recycled, either. The use of plastic has to drop – and fast. Changing the way we buy fruit and veg is a place to start. If we can get rid of/ reduce the use of plastic shopping bags, we can certainly do the same for fruit and veg and then see where else the same principle can be applied to other categories of food. There is transparent paper packaging available so goods can be batched and sealed, so there are no excuses to sit back and wait. The time for sharing pictures and posting horrified emojis of the damage we are wreaking on the planet – and our own bodies – is up. Thanks for reading this. For a long time the country has - for the most part - relied on fossil fuels to power our houses, businesses and transportation. These fossil fuels are becoming harder and harder to pull from the earth and the effects are devastating. Not to mention the fuels we are now receiving are severely reduced in quality - what is known as "dirty fuel." Our government spends billions in subsidies on the polluting fuel sources, a market that is drastically unsustainable. Crawley is a constantly developing town. The past five years have seen the town move from having thirteen districts to fourteen and the outskirts, once fields and forest land, are now developing communities. It is clear more people are seeing the geographical benefits of the town, nestled between London and Brighton. Not only this, Gatwick Airport offers a variety of jobs and links to myriad destinations around the globe. This is where I see the importance of this initiative. As more and more people move into the area, large-scale developments are taking place. Our carbon footprint is growing, as are the prices we pay for energy. The Public Green Energy Initiative aims to move people away from relying on corporations ownership of our energy so that we, as consumers, are no longer under the threat of dramatically increasing energy prices. Not only would moving to green energy be sustainable for the future, it gives people an opportunity to reduce costs and feed energy back into the grid. This lowers our prices and helps us build a local economy in green energy infrastructure. Gatwick Airport (LGW) has already started its own initiative by changing all of its bulbs to LED's (runway included) and plans to become the worlds first entirely LED lit airport. If the surrounding town of Crawley joins in turning to renewable sources of energy, the town and conjoined airport could become a model for the country. The extra added benefit - if we turn to become a green energy town, there is a huge opportunity for a total change in town, transport and community planning. Bus routes could be added and subsidized by local council in order to reduce the need for cars for small journeys. This means that areas of the town would be more accessible for workers, the elderly and the youth. Cycle routes would be improved and cycle initiatives, such as the cycle to work scheme, could be promoted through local companies. By making the energy public, the public get the vote on where their energy comes from and therefore gain independence and pride in taking part in something large-scale.
