Any day now it's expected to be announced that former Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre will be added to the House of Lords. In his time at the Mail, Paul Dacre has been accused of stirring up hatred against immigrants, politicians and judges alike - and now he could have a say on how the UK is run. And he and his paper are even currently facing legal action over alleged privacy breaches. At the very least, he should not be honoured with a peerage while the court case is in progress, but setting aside the legal action, someone like Paul Dacre, who used his time at the Mail to divide the country, represents the opposite of the values of fairness and respectfulness that we share as a country. He’s not the kind of person who should be celebrated by being made a Lord. Right now, it's still not confirmed, but if enough of us speak out against the idea of Paul Dacre being made a Lord, we can make sure his appointment doesn't become a reality.

To show Putin and his government how sanctions can effect his cohorts/followers, in effect, perhaps, make them homeless as Russia is causing Ukranians to flee their homes and become refugees from his brutality

The right to protest is a human right. The changes proposed in part III of the Home Office's Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts bill (published 9/3/21) will give the police and government powers to silence protests, whether a protest of 1 or a protest of 10,000. Whereas the previous powers (Public Order Act 1986) have allowed police to restrict demonstrations that risked serious public disruption, serious disorder or serious damage to property, the new bill adds additional justifications for restrictions: noise and the potential for ‘impact’. It also increases the opportunity for protestors to be prosecuted if they fail to comply with restrictions they are unaware of, and in broadening the definition of what constitutes a protest. Protests are noisy events - they are designed to demonstrate the public's feelings, many of those people may be marginalised from mainstream politics, with this their only way of being heard. They are designed to make an impact! The proposed changes are a clear attempt by the government to prevent dissenting voices being heard. In addition the changes proposed reduce future scrutiny by parliament through the use of statutory instruments, undermining the democratic process and placing the decision as to whether a protest can go ahead in the hands of the Home Secretary. These changes restrict the rights and freedoms of people from all sides of the political spectrum to assert their human and democratic right to protest. The lives and wellbeing of some of the the world's poorest people depends on us. The government spends 0.7% of the country’s Gross National Income on foreign aid - that’s 70p for every £100 made in the UK. This is in line with the target set by the United Nations and works out at around £13 billion per year. [1] This money helps to create a safer, healthier and more prosperous world for us all. Millions of lives are saved and enhanced because of this money. Supporting other countries to resolve long term issues and in times of crisis or disaster is not just a humanitarian and moral issue - investing in the future of other countries is to invest in our own. In February 2020, Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) was hit by the worst flooding in living memory. RCT was the worst affected part of Wales, which itself was one of the worst affected parts of the UK, with significant infrastructure damage sustained across the County at an estimated overall cost of £80m. On Feb. 26th, the Prime Minister told the House of Commons that emergency funding would be passported to Wales and areas like RCT, adding that the UK Government was "working flat out with the Welsh devolved administration to ensure everybody gets the flood relief that they need." 40 weeks have passed without any additional funding being passported to the Welsh Government or RCT from the UK Government, as pledged, to repair bridges, river walls, highways, culverts, and secure the Tylorstown landslip.

How about using your influence amongst your parliamentary colleagues to recommend Jonathan Rea from NI - world superbike champion in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 - the most successful World SBK rider in the championship history, for a knighthood, too? He still lives in the country.

Conservative Peer Dido Harding was appointed as Head of the National Institute for Health Protection in August. The wife of a Conservative MP and friend of former Prime Minister David Cameron, Dido Harding didn’t pip other candidates to the post at the interview. There weren’t any other candidates. She was just handed the job. She’s not the only one to land a top job this way. Each week it seems another individual secures a role of vital public importance without any advertisement or fair process. Very often that individual has personal and political connections to the Government. In any other country, we’d call it what it is: cronyism. But just imagine what it would mean for jobs to be advertised and awarded on the basis of ability not who you went to school with. This Government's approach discriminates against those born without a silver spoon in their mouth. It’s unfair to those who don’t rub shoulders with high-ranking Ministers. And it’s unfair to groups who the data shows are shut out of public life. It’s time to put an end to it.

We believe Elbit Systems, an Israeli arms manufacturer based in Oldham, should be closed down and urgently call for its production to move to environmental and renewable manufacturing instead of weapons Elbit Systems Ltd is the sole owner of Ferranti Technologies based in Cairo House in Waterhead. Elbit is a major supplier to the Israeli defence Forces and makes a range of weapons systems developed through “extensive real world combat experience” in conflicts with Palestinians, others in the Middle East and around the world. In Gaza over 2200 Palestinians were killed in 51 days of Israel’s bombing in 2014 including over 500 children. Palestinians in Gaza have protested against inhumane living conditions created by a decade long Israeli blockade. Israel has responded violently to unarmed demonstrators by shooting dead at least 250 and injuring 18,000. Israel is one of the world’s largest arms exporters and India is its largest buyer. Troops in occupied Kashmir are likely to be using Israeli made arms against a besieged population, who have for years experienced human rights violations.

According to the end child poverty coalition, 27. 2% children live in poverty in Barnet. This equates to 6566 children after housing costs in 2018-2019. We, the undersigned, urge Barnet council to take urgent action and join the councils across the country and provide free school meals for those Barnet children eligible over October half term and beyond.
