Refugees Welcome in SomersetAylan, the toddler who drowned fleeing Syria, was just three years old. His town was under attack by Isis. His five year old brother and his mum also died trying to reach safety. Aylan's family are victims of a war they had no part in. This is not about politics. It's about helping people who are in desperate need - because we can help them, and we should help them. Please sign this petition to show Somerset County Council that you are willing to support refugees in Somerset. We will do whatever we can to help these people, who are fleeing horrors we can only imagine. Refugees Welcome in Amber ValleyThe tragic story of Aylan, the three years old toddler who drowned when fleeing Syria, after his town was attacked by Isis and of his five year old brother and his mum who also died trying to reach safety has shocked all of us. Yet, this is only one story out of thousands of stories of people who have been forced to desperately flee their homes. Under international law, genuine refugees, who are people fleeing war or persecution, have a right to asylum. In Austria and Germany, the Red Cross are standing by to receive migrants who will have the opportunity to apply for asylum. Across the EU, we urgently need coordinated action to address this tragic crisis. In the meantime, what are we doing in the UK? Are the British the kind of people who turn their backs as people drown in their desperation to flee persecution and death in countries like Syria and Eritrea or are we the kind of people who rise to our humanitarian responsibilities? So in Amber Valley, let's set an example and provide refuge to 40 families in their hour of need. If you live in Amber valley, please sign and share this petition with others using the following link: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/efforts/refugees-welcome Thank you.128 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sue Walker

Refugees Welcome in DevonAylan, the toddler who drowned fleeing Syria, was just three years old. His town was under attack by Isis. His five year old brother and his mum also died trying to reach safety. Yet our prime minister said ‘we won't take any more refugees’. He thinks that most of us don't care. But 38 Degrees members do care. We don't want Britain to be the kind of country that turns its back as people drown in their desperation to flee places like Syria. So let's stand up for Britain's long tradition of helping refugees fleeing war. Let's show the Prime Minister that we, the people of the UK, are proud to do our part and provide refuge to people in their hour of need.
