Crawley Public Green Energy InitiativeFor a long time the country has - for the most part - relied on fossil fuels to power our houses, businesses and transportation. These fossil fuels are becoming harder and harder to pull from the earth and the effects are devastating. Not to mention the fuels we are now receiving are severely reduced in quality - what is known as "dirty fuel." Our government spends billions in subsidies on the polluting fuel sources, a market that is drastically unsustainable. Crawley is a constantly developing town. The past five years have seen the town move from having thirteen districts to fourteen and the outskirts, once fields and forest land, are now developing communities. It is clear more people are seeing the geographical benefits of the town, nestled between London and Brighton. Not only this, Gatwick Airport offers a variety of jobs and links to myriad destinations around the globe. This is where I see the importance of this initiative. As more and more people move into the area, large-scale developments are taking place. Our carbon footprint is growing, as are the prices we pay for energy. The Public Green Energy Initiative aims to move people away from relying on corporations ownership of our energy so that we, as consumers, are no longer under the threat of dramatically increasing energy prices. Not only would moving to green energy be sustainable for the future, it gives people an opportunity to reduce costs and feed energy back into the grid. This lowers our prices and helps us build a local economy in green energy infrastructure. Gatwick Airport (LGW) has already started its own initiative by changing all of its bulbs to LED's (runway included) and plans to become the worlds first entirely LED lit airport. If the surrounding town of Crawley joins in turning to renewable sources of energy, the town and conjoined airport could become a model for the country. The extra added benefit - if we turn to become a green energy town, there is a huge opportunity for a total change in town, transport and community planning. Bus routes could be added and subsidized by local council in order to reduce the need for cars for small journeys. This means that areas of the town would be more accessible for workers, the elderly and the youth. Cycle routes would be improved and cycle initiatives, such as the cycle to work scheme, could be promoted through local companies. By making the energy public, the public get the vote on where their energy comes from and therefore gain independence and pride in taking part in something large-scale.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sam Cox

Reject Park Lane Group Housing Development in Strand MeadowThere are many reasons why houses should not be built in this area, and the developer "Park Lane Group" are using well-known loopholes in the system in an attempt to build homes for pure profit without taking into account the needs and concerns of the local community. - Originally, 12 out of 30 homes were to be 'affordable'. However, recent revised plans show all properties to be full market value because the developer has now deemed the project to be no longer viable if any of the homes are made 'affordable'. This is a well-known planning loophole to get around the requirements set by government and council that all new planning developments on AONB (areas of natural beauty) should include a minimum amount of affordable housing. - This development does nothing to provide homes to meet known local housing needs - People in Burwash need housing the can afford and must not be priced out of the village by the greed of housing developers - The planning protection afforded by the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natual Beauty (AONB) must not be chipped away by speculative housing developments - The field and its surrounding ecology should not be destroyed for an exclusively 'non-affordable' estate - The lack of parking in Strand Meadow creates severe traffic congestion. The problems of the extra traffic that will be generated during the construction of the houses and after the houses are occupied have not been properly addressed - The developer's traffic report is outdated and uses data from 2006. Photographs of the area were deliberately taken at a time when there was less traffic in Strand Meadow and does not accurately portray the amount of cars parked during evenings and weekends. Most importantly, there is already limited access for emergency service vehicles and refuse collections. - Burwash Traffic already created danger for pedestrians and other road users: a) at the A265 junction with Shrub Lane, b) the narrow ends of the High Street and c) along Shrub Lane - Changes to the drainage provisions requested by East Sussex County Council to reduce risks of flooding and protect the River Rother from further deterioration have been ignored - The design of the housing is wholly unsuitable and the density of housing units within the AONB is too great - Plans for sewage disposal have been left deliberately vague. Southern Water have confirmed they have no extra capacity to handle sewage. The Environment Agency's stated policy is that permits for treatment plants where there is existing sewage pipework are likely to be refused.84 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Martyn Wright

Stop cars speeding down Dallowie Road in Patna, East AyrshireHaving lost two cats in the last 16 weeks due to being hit by cars in this street, my worry is that maybe next time a child could be killed. Dallowie Road is a road which is regularly used especially by children and adults going to School and the local Doctor’s surgery plus also has access to the local shops. Dallowie road has a straight expanse and yet does not have any speed bumps installed which would help to slow drivers down. East Ayrshire Council, please take action and install speed bumps before someone is killed.165 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Fiona Blain

Prevent the UK Extradition of Julian Assange to AmericaAfter protecting WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for almost six years, Ecuador is now planning to withdraw its political asylum, and eject him from its London embassy which would turn him over to the British authorities. Lenín Moreno, the newly-elected President of Ecuador, visited London last week to give a speech at Global Disability Summit on 24 July 2018. However, media reports suggest the actual purpose of the President's visit was to finalize a deal with UK government to withdraw its asylum protection of Assange. According to the Intercept's Glenn Greenwald, multiple sources close to the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry and the President's office have confirmed that Julian Assange will be handed over to Britain in the coming weeks or even days. The Backgroud: Julian Assange, has been living in The Embassy of Ecuador in London since June 2012, when he was granted asylum by the Ecuador Government after a British court ordered his extradition to Sweden to face questioning over an alleged sexual assault and rape charge. In 2017 Swedish Attorney teams visited Assange in London which resulted in all charges being dropped. However, Assange could still not leave the Ecuador Embassy as UK Police forces maintained a 24/ 7 presence around the building with orders to effect an arrest warrant for a minor charge of "failure to surrender," which carries a prison term of three months and a fine. However, the real reason for an arrest warrant would be to also effect an Extradition to America where he is facing federal charges for publishing classified information leaked by Chelsea Manning in 2010, illustrating atrocious war crimes. The leaked files included video footage of Reuters news reporters, and innocent bystanders being murdered by a US helicopter gunship. The footage was entitled Collateral Murder, and was immediately also widely published in media outlets all around the world. The Guardian, New York Times, The Washington post amongst many others have all made a fortune from the information that was published by WikiLeaks, but are not being targeted in any way by US government. Instead the US government have sighted Wikileaks and Julian Assange as enemies of the state, and have even called for his assignation by drone strike! In 2016, The United Nations ruled that Julian Assange was and had been Arbitrarily Detained at the Embassy and should be immediately set free with compensation, however this ruling has been totally ignored. Current Situation: Julian Assange, has not been online since March 2018, after Ecuador cut his communications with the outside world from its London embassy... no visitors, no phone, no internet connection. The Ecuadorian government took this decision after Assange tweeted in support of the Catalan independence movement exposing Spanish governments alleged human rights violations. According to Ecuador, Assange had breached an agreement to refrain from interfering in other states' affairs. In reality however, it is thought that America is currently applying 'significant pressure' on Ecuador, including threatening to block a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if Assange continues to be allowed stay at its London Embassy. He is therefore now unable to defend himself against any of the allegations that are being currently issued. It is completely unacceptable for the UK Government to knowingly allow and Extradition Process to happen, with the knowledge that US officials are seeking a death penalty. Julian Assange has provided us all with the privilege of gaining access to the Truth behind many of the world's most complex geo-political issues. Action: This issue is Urgent. Julian Assange could now be evicted at any time and extradited to America. Please Take Action and sign this campaign, and broaden the public understanding of this issue.59 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Simon Kirton

Gloucester Recycling is RubbishWaste collection is an area that affects all of us, not just the day to day cleanliness of our city but also our impact on the environment. This failure by Gloucester City Council, and their Contractor Amey, has a wide ranging impact on us as residents. Our environment is unnecessarily impacted by the recycling we sort being placed into landfill due to ineffeciencies and the services we need are degraded by the shortfall in funding due to recycling not being able to be sold. £300,000 is a large part of our council's budget which, with the continued defunding of our local councils from central government, we can not afford. We are chastised if our bins are put out with the lid open but the lack of scrutiny or diligence in the Council's handling of Amey and their contract is frankly mind boggling, it's time for change. Prevent Fracking in LeedsAs social ecologists argue, the exploitation of nature is rooted in the exploitation of humankind. Fracking is again a demonstration of how financial incentives threaten to undermine our long-term existence on this planet. To pursue this path will mean greater pollution, degradation of the UK countryside (over half a million metres will be sacrifice to fracking wells) and the exacerbation of the already clear hazards presented by climate change. Environmental activists are campaigning and dying in countries such as Honduras to prevent industrial projects that will destroy scared areas of nature. In England it is time that we realise our responsibility as environmental stewards, in Leeds we must unite to challenge companies who are too short-sighted to see what is valuable. Preston New Road has already shown its opposition with 50,000 signatures, can we stand with them?93 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ptolemy Brown

GOLDFISH AS FAIR PRIZES.Animal rights. The 2008 Animal Welfare act. I was at a fair today with my friends and I walked past a stall I hoped I wouldn’t see. I couldn’t believe how cruel people could be to leave a LIVING creature in a tiny bag/box in direct sun and charge £3 for it. Winners are paying for a more deaths of innocent beings. I hope you can feel my passion for this and have the curtesy to help put a stop to animal crueltly. You can have fun at a fair, but leave the fish to be sold and go to those who want and know how to care for an animal properly. Thankyou.26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lucy Free
