  • Save our A&E unit at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate.
There is a plan to close the A&E unit and centralise A&E facilities at Canterbury. This will risk the lives of the people who need this vital service. The time taken to travel to Canterbury from Thanet could mean the difference between life and death to those who are ill or involved in accidents. I have a special needs son, who has global learning difficulties and severe epilepsy. When he suffers from epileptic fits, we often have to use the A&E facility at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. I am sure that there are many others, who are in a similar situation, and need to do likewise. I have started an online petition, to be sent to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, in order to try and save our A&E unit at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate. This A&E unit is vitally important to the people of Thanet. Transferring services to Canterbury or Ashford would cost lives.

  • Royal Wedding Present - House the Grenfell residents
A lot of traumatised people are still living in temporary accommodation, almost 6 months after the fire. It would be reasonable to assume that Prince Harry and Megan Markle would be appalled by this and, consequently, delighted that the occasion of their wedding may in some way help to rehouse them. We're calling on The Rt Hon. Liz Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the treasury, to finance this, as a wedding present from the nation to them.

  • Lower the voting age to 16
The voting age should be lowered to 16 because we think that people are responsible enough to know what they are voting for and they are deciding their future. 16 year olds are eligible to join in the army but are not allowed to vote for who makes the decisions that change their future. They are many other things they can do like learn to drive a car which is a big responsibility.

  • closure of padiatrician and adult heart surgury at Royal Brompton Hospital

Order of Merit are chosen personally by the Queen. he Brompton has previously scuppered a previous attempt and one a High Court battle arguing the process was flawed. Why then would the NHS Executive who will rule on Thursday the fate of the Brompton by dismantling the highest quality heart care service in this country. This could result in an unforgivable act to dismantle the most important heart disease in Britain.

  • Stop the Supply Teaching Agency Rip off and Every Classroom should have a qualified Teacher
Because unqualified staff are being used more and more in schools in England and Wales. Every class should always have a fully qualified teacher in it. Schools are increasingly using unqualified staff to cover lessons of absent teachers, sometimes for weeks at a time. Supply teachers losing 40-60% of their daily pay and their pension is forcing them out of the profession. Teacher retention and recruitment is at crisis level in England and Wales. The taxpayer and most importantly our children are being shortchanged. Public money is going to private profit. Education is not a business, it is our children's birthright. England and Wales are slipping down the OECD rankings every year.

  • Sex and Relationships Education Introduced to National Curriculum
While teen pregnancy is on the decrease in the UK, we still have the highest rate in Western Europe. Teen pregnancy rates here are 5 times higher than in the Netherlands and around twice the EU average. We believe that this difference is down to a reluctance to talk about the realities of sex in the UK.

  • Give Passengers More Legroom On Flights!
This needs to be enforced on mainly short-haul routes which can last up to 5.5 hours long! Whenever you are on a flight, it is very cramped and the only way to resolve this is by paying ÂŁ25 per person per way to get some extra legroom. Many passengers have sore ankles and legs after a flight and nothing can be done. The Civil Aviation Authority who make the laws for airliners can enforce them to remove a few rows giving you more space and less to worry about. It needs to accommodate for passengers up to 7foot on all short haul flights. Please sign and support this petition! This is vitaly important. Even look at the following reviews on seats! : Thomas Cook Seat Review : Mike Hanse - "Just flown back from Lanzarote today. Flight attendants were very good but the seating is just the worst I have ever encountered. I am not exactly tall at 6ft but I have never suffered a 3 hour plus flight in such an uncomfortable position. The seats are wafer thin and I spent the whole flight with my knees against the seat in front. When the passenger reclined that seat the pain became even worse" Thomson Seat Review: Max Welsh - "I flew on Thomson Airways Boeing 757-200 in January 2017 from Lanzarote to Glasgow. The seats were so close together and barely any legroom. It was not only the legroom that was terrible, the comfort of the seats was absolutely horrendous. British Airways Seat Review: Ian Graham - "Sat in Row 27B and the seats have no recline due to toilets behind. Seat pitch poor felt very cramped especially when a person in front reclined seat. Seats not very wide either. Coming back on an A320 again sat in an emergency exit (overwing seat) and even though they were supposed to have a bit more legroom still felt cramped. Glad it was only a 2 hr flight." EasyJet Seat Review: E McLean -"Cramped and uncomfortable. My partner is 6'7" and was unable to move during the flight. He could not lean forward, nor could he rest his head on anything. I am not quite as tall but still left the flight with aching legs and had to walk around for some time to get the circulation back. Appalling conditions" That's been a mix of airlines and it's clear to see that something needs to be done! Action needs to be done and the CAA must enforce this law for airlines in the UK to remove a few rows of seats and make legroom bigger on every seat!

  • Equal Access to University
Universities can use their discretion in setting fees and therefore have the power to decide to charge home fees or waive fees altogether. THE NEED FOR EQUAL ACCESS Asylum Seekers • Classified as overseas students and have to pay international student tuition fees. • Cannot access student finance (loans) to cover the cost of tuition fees or living costs. • Cannot work and if they have no money, must live on government support of just £36.95 per week. People granted ‘Discretionary Leave to Remain’ (DLR) • Classified as overseas students and have to pay international student tuition fees. • Cannot access student finance (loans) to cover the cost of tuition fees or living costs. • Allowed to work but cannot access student finance. In most cases this would mean a university education is out of reach. • As of June 2016, a small number of people with DLR are eligible for student finance, under a category called ‘long residence’ for those who have lived in the UK for half their life. People granted ‘Humanitarian Protection’ (including resettled Syrians) • Classified as home students and can pay home tuition fees. • Cannot access a student loan to cover the costs of their fees or living costs until they meet the 3 years ordinarily resident criteria. • Allowed to work but cannot access student finance. In most cases this would mean a university education is out of reach. Many refugees have been forced to abandon their education. They arrive in the UK ready to enter university, but without access to student finance they cannot do so, for example, Syrian refugees arriving in the UK under the government resettlement programme will be forced to wait three years until they can apply for a student loan to cover tuition fees and living costs. Young people who are in the UK seeking asylum are legally obliged to go to school like all British young people. Each year those who are academically able, pass their A levels only to find that they are suddenly separated from their British born class mates and barred from progressing to university. The system which classed them as “legally obliged to attend school” now re classes them as “international” and puts financial barriers in place to prevent further study. This situation is affecting the lives of people who are in the UK legally as a result of life threatening situations in their home countries. They cannot return home to study and cannot gain education to build a new life here. STAR receives calls every day in the run up to the new academic year from young asylum seekers and people with DLR and HP, desperate to take up a hard won place at university but unable to do so due to financial barriers. Instead huge potential is wasted as people are blocked from the education which would enable them to make a full contribution to our society and, when peace is restored, work to rebuild their own.

  • Consult the People of the UK on the final Brexit deal
An offer was recently made to MPs to vote on whether to accept the deal that is negotiated, or to leave without one. But there is a third option, which is to say no to both, and to stay in Europe. The original public debate on whether to leave Europe was full of misinformation and promises that have no prospect of being kept. As time moves on, it is becoming increasingly evident that the damage to the UK economy is significant, and is forecast to get even worse. In view of this stark reality the terms on which the UK will be obliged to quit Europe should be put to the nation as a whole, and not left to politicians alone.
