• Stop HS2 and fund NHS shortfall instead
Government funding on the NHS has been systematically falling, as a percentage of GDP, since the Tories took office. Funding here, in GDP terms, is now amongst the lowest in Europe despite the fact that we are one of the wealthiest nations in the world. The NHS is close to the hearts of the British people, is something all tax payers contribute to and CAN BE adequately funded. It is a choice that this Government are refusing to make because, in truth, they are seeking to privatise it completely. HS2 is something unnecessary, something that will only benefit a relative minority and which will carve a mighty gash through our countryside. The saving of 20 minutes on a train journey should not be prioritised above the saving of lives in our A & E departments.

  • Make Higher Education free in the UK
Higher education has fees around £9000-£20000 per year. Not everyone can afford this education to pursue their career. Let everybody have equal opportunities to have the education if they want it. Help society understand that all education is equally important.

  • Road vehicles should use headlights at all times.
It is quite alarming how many vehicles of all types do not use headlights in conditions of poor visibility, such as heavy rain, mist and even fog, dawn and dusk light, etc. Even in bright sunlight vehicles are far more visible. Vehicle visibility is an absolute priority. It reduces accident rates and saves lives .The EU ruled that from 2011 all vehicles should be fitted with DRL's (Direct Running Lights) which are switched on automatically when the engine is started. (This does not appear to turn on the rear lights.) There are many vehicles made before this date, and there is a mass of evidence that vehicles can be seen far more clearly under all weather and light conditions if they have their headlights and rear lights on. Please sign this petition. It takes only 30 seconds to help make our roads safer.

  • Remove charges from QE2 Bridge
When the bridge was built and a toll introduced it was promised that when the bridge was paid for the toll would be removed. This promise has not been kept.

  • Get Trump Barred from ALL pubs and bars
Because we bar people for making customers and staff uncomfortable (as well as other reasons), and this guy is a prat. Stay out of my pub I wouldn't want to sit in the same room as this guy and enjoy a meal, or stay in the same Hotel or bar or any space. Keep him out.

  • Make Politics compulsory in secondary education
This is important because not enough people know about how politics work and who to vote for when the time comes, I think teens need to know who to vote for and what people in the government do.

  • More SEN Training for teachers and TA'S in schools
This very important because we need to help our children cope in society, prepare our children for a happy and meaningful life. My daughter is 12 years old, though out her primary school days struggled with going to school, crying a lot, her anxiety levels were through the roof. Only when my daughter was in year 4 the school had noticed my daughter had communication problems I was never told about until year 5. When my daughter was 3 years old I had taken to the GP, she was very violent so our GP referred my daughter over to the community paediatric services I got my local MP involved. After all those years of stress, anxiety, we finally received a outcome, on the 6th Dec 2016 my daughter was finally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • British Man's Wife Denied a UK Visa
We are a family of 5 people, 4 of us are British citizens. My wife in Venezuelan. The children are aged 8, 7 and 3 months. I live and work and pay taxes in the UK and my wife is being denied a UK visa for no reason. Our family is being destroyed by this ridiculous decision. My wife and children are currently in Venezuela while I am in the UK setting up a home and working so everything is ready for my family to come here. We have been separated for more than 10 months while waiting for the visa to be issued. We meet all of the visa requirements including my wife passing an English proficiency exam with the British Council in Venezuela and me being in full time employment earning more than the £18,600 wage threshold that is required by the British Government. Regardless of my stability in the UK, mine and our 3 children British nationality and citizenship the immigration department refused the visa and a Judge dismissed the appeal. The dismissal was based on my work situation but this is not a true or valid reason because I am in full time employment and earn more than the minimum wages required. There is no reason to deny my wife the visa yet she is being denied the visa. My children are suffering terribly by this unnecessary separation that has been enforced upon us by the British authorities. Their future is being taken from them by a decision that is wrong and is contradictory to the visa requirements. We meet every one of the requirements and we are still being denied the visa.

  • Collect Tax from British Offshore Tax Havens to Fund Free Elderly Care
Various governments have had no adequate policy for caring for the elderly in England and Wales, leading to dreadful suffering, as well as strain on the NHS. Its a moral imperative to change this and bring in the Scottish system that provides non- means tested home care for the elderly. That way, they are safer at home and not bed blocking the N.H.S. ( Community Care & Health ( Scotland) Act 2002.) The Government says there is no money to pay for the Scottish system of elderly care in England and Wales. That's because successive governments chose to collude with the corporate elite, rather than care for us. This also causes too much tax burden paid through P.A.Y.E., which should reduce if the elite loop holes that lose the welfare state budget billions of pounds were closed. A proper policy to enforce tax collection from British offshore territories, including political support and resources to bring vigorous tax collection cases, would raise billions of pounds for home care and convalescent homes for the elderly as well as fund other public services.

  • Stop the cuts to our essential Youth Provisions - Young People Matter!
Stop the cuts to our essential Youth Provisions - Young People Matter! What does this mean for our children? Youth Clubs Drastic cuts to our youth service means there will only be 8 youth clubs or even less to cater for the fastest growing youth population in the country. This also means less funding available to third sector community based organisations. As a result there will be very little or no access to positive activities to keep young people engaged with during the evenings, weekends and over the holiday periods in most parts of the borough. Implications: Rise in crime and anti-social behaviour Careers Service Drastic cuts to the Careers Service means there will be very little or no one-to-one support and expert advice available to young people to help them move into further education, university, training, apprenticeship and employment. Tower Hamlets Careers Service saves tax payers around £53 million pounds a year by keeping youth unemployment down, based on research undertaken by the University of York. The Careers Service was instrumental in reducing youth unemployment in Tower Hamlets from 10.9% in 2006 to 3.4% in 2016 through its work in schools and in the community. The Careers Service helps young people with job preparation, realise their career aspirations, overcome barriers to progression and supports them onto higher learning and into good jobs. The Careers Service supports over 4,000 young people every year including those with special needs, looked after children and young offenders. The Careers Service is key to retention, social mobility, economic growth and reducing unemployment. Implications: Rise in youth unemployment Drop in educational attainment Targeted Youth Support Drastic cuts to Targeted Youth Support means there will be very little or no one-to-one support available to vulnerable young people with complex issues to get timely and coordinated help to prevent their problems from escalating or arising at all. Implications: Poor outcomes for our most vulnerable children Rise in long-term unemployment Cuts to these essential services will be detrimental to our children’s future progress and success. People's Alliance of Tower Hamlets call all concerned about young people's lives in Tower Hamlets to sign the petition.

  • Governments '96% project' for school attendance
There is a 48 hour rule on contagious illness for a reason - so that the whole school isnt infected yet this new scheme penalises those parents who abide by the 48 hour rule putting the rest of the school at risk and not allowing our children to fully recover from their illnesses (reducing their immune systems and need for additional medical care in the future!) The 96% project will also put additional pressure on the NHS for everyday illnesses to be confirmed by already over stretched doctors just so the children arent marked as 'absent'. There needs to be a better way of targeting attendance that doesnt put a huge risk to the health of our schools and add pressure to the NHS, not to mention the cost to our schools in implementing this system.

  • Fair Fines
Unfair on the poorest in society. The new speeding fine is 1.5 x the weekly wage up to a maximum £1,000. So someone on a £300 would be fined £450 and a celebrity on £100,000 a week would pay £1,000 nother £150,000. I believe that the Lower paid individual is less able to pay 1.5 x the weekly wage. So why is there a cap, celebrities will pay more than £1,000 on a bottle of champagne. This not fair and promotes the richest being above the law! The limit must be removed.
