We must reduce the amount this chemical is used because of the wildlife and nature impact. The bees are unable to live around this chemical and the plants it's used on. Bees are in serious decline and need our support. Tests support it is carcinogenic to humans too, can be linked to cancer, liver and kidney damage, diabetes. There are many other means available online to give ideas for how to replace this chemical and rid the streets from weeds. We managed before this came along and we have a moral duty to manage now, for the bees and insects, and human wellbeing.

The Highdown Tearooms is a much loved establishment for the people of Worthing in West Sussex and beyond. This dog friendly cafe is a lovely place to meet up with friends, and is popular with dog walkers, walkers, and for those visiting the adjoining Highdown Gardens. It has been there for many years, and is a very popular and thriving business, so it was a shock to hear that their tenancy agreement is not being renewed by the owners. The notice of non renewal says that the premises have to be vacated by the 6th July. Further update today 3rd July. Donna has been advised that the tearoom can now continue trading until the 18th July 2018. Further update today 10th July. From Donna. 29th July 2018 Sadly, the 29th July 2018 will be our last day at the Tearoom. Today is not about me. I feel for our staff who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. I feel for all our customers who have lost somewhere they could sit, chat, relax and hopefully feel valued. I’m sorry but I can’t say much more at the moment, but I thank every one of you from the bottom of my heart that has taken time to visit the tearoom to personally wish us all the best, those of you that took the time to sign the petition and to those of you that took time to add such special comments to the Worthing Herald and our Facebook page. I could not have wished for better people to call my friends. A special thank you goes out to our four-legged friends for bringing in their owners each week. The recent changes to the 666 bus service are a barrier preventing access to vital healthcare services. Timetable changes introduced on the 3rd June 2018 have seen an already limited service dramatically reduced. Prior to this date Stagecoach ran 7 daily services on weekdays between Faversham and the William Harvey Hospital. The new timetable changes now mean only 2 services per day run between Faversham and the William Harvey Hospital. These changes adversely discriminate against those with limited mobility, the vulnerable and the elderly users of this bus service, who previously used the 666 as it served as a direct route to essential health services at the William Harvey. For many users, the increased journey time and problems of changing onto a connecting bus at Ashford Park Street has made this journey dangerous and distressing.

Somer, 15 and his brother Areeb, 13, are terrified that they will be murdered by Islamic extremists if they are forced to leave Scotland - the country they love and call home - and deported to Pakistan. They fled the country to Glasgow with their parents, Maqsood and Parveen, in 2012 following death threats because they are Christians. The brothers, who think of themselves as Scottish and are both thriving at secondary school where they have lots of friends and play a full part in community life, have lived in limbo for more than six years. The Home Office have rejected the Bakhsh family's applications for asylum because officials do not accept their lives are at risk in Pakistan, despite the fact it is a country where Christians are persecuted and blasphemy carries the death penalty. The catalyst for the family’s move to Scotland was the murder of two of Maqsood Bakhsh's Christian friends who were gunned down outside a court, while in police custody, in the Pakistan city of Faisalabad in July 2010. Maqsood Bakhsh claims the people responsible for their deaths have targeted him, know exactly who he is and would kill him and his family if they had the chance. Four of his friends have been killed by Islamic extremists, his sister in law’s brother is serving life in jail because of Pakistan’s blasphemy law and his nephew was kidnapped last month. An uncle of Maqsood was murdered on his doorstep in Pakistan, shortly after he returned to the country after living for nearly 20 years in the USA. Once you have been marked by people who mean you harm, you are forever marked. The family feel safe in Scotland and want the chance to stay and make a full contribution to society.

These care homes provide long term and respite care. A lifeline for residents and families. Mcwhirters House in Larkhall and Kirkton House in High Blantyre are scheduled for closure without proper public consultation. This is a disgrace! The next phases will see the closure of Mcclymont House in Lanark and Canderavon in Stonehouse. The overall scheme will see the introduction of a hub that will provide transitional care only and will offer no replacement for the loss of over 100 long term beds in South Lanarkshire. This can only lead to disaster. Communities must be consulted. We must value our older people and offer true choice. For some that may be long term care in a care home, for some that may be care in their own home. Each are individuals and should be treated as such.

Overnight and without any consultation or warning, a barrier was put up by Attleborough Town Council completely preventing access for some disabled residents and the less able in our community to their only social group. Unfortunately for years this situation has been allowed to continue. Please help us to help those unable to have their voices heard, in return for which our utmost thanks will be yours. Attleborough Town Council has done nothing to implement The Equality Act regarding disabled access; they have procrastinated at every turn despite months and months of requests, Gaymers Recreation Ground is accessible only to every able bodied person within the community and surrounding area, directly contravening one of the covenants applicable to the land. Time is up: we wish this injustice to be rectified.

In the UK the average family throws away 22% of their weekly shop, which is worth £700 per year. Food waste is really, really bad for the environment. It takes a land mass larger than China to grow the food each year that is ultimately never eaten – all to produce food that we then just throw away. In addition, food that is never eaten accounts for 25% of all fresh water consumption globally. Not only are all of the resources that went into creating the uneaten food wasted (land, water, labour, energy, manufacturing, packaging, etc), but when food waste goes to landfill, which is where the vast majority of it ends up, it decomposes without access to oxygen and creates methane, which is 23x more deadly than carbon dioxide. Every which way you look at it food waste is a major culprit in destroying our planet, and in fact if food waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China and the USA. Back in 2012, the UK Government changed the required salary for UK residents to bring their foreign spouses into the country from £12,000 to £18,600. (An increase of more than 50%) This is utterly unfair, was deemed so by the House of Lords, and is even disproportionate to inflation rates. The House of Lords was concerned about immigration and therefore raised the issue in Parliament as to whether the impact on communities and families on modest incomes had been examined, but it received no direct response. Many hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding citizens — who prior to 2012, hoped to be settling towards a married life with their overseas partners, so long as they could acquire a full-time contract and salary of £12,000 or more — had their dreams shattered and their families' lives torn apart by this unjust legislation. Furthermore, this legislation has done absolutely nothing to rid the UK of those unfit to live harmoniously with or adapt to the British way of life.

Planning permission has been applied for to build 91 acres of permanent and seasonal white plastic polytunnels in Ocle Pychard. The face of the beautiful green county of Herefordshire is slowly being wrapped in plastic, turning it into an industrial wasteland for yet more strawberry production. The application also includes a settlement to house 330 itinerant workers. The people who live in this tranquil and rural area - many of whom are elderly, and have lived their whole lives here - now face the prospect of being surrounded, their rural views being replaced by 5.2m high polythene structures. There will be negligible benefit to the local residents and businesses, as these farms operate as independent, isolated and self-contained communities. This development only benefits the owner, who doesn't even live here. Noise pollution, light pollution, loss of biodiversity and natural habitats, the effect on leisure and tourism, increased heavy traffic on the roads ... the impact of such a development is massive. Combine that with the damage to the wellbeing and peace of mind of the people who live here, and you have to ask whether it's really worth it. Each such development that is granted permission by the council paves the way for the next development. When will it end? Will the rural counties of the UK disappear under oceans of plastic as Almeria in Spain has?
