  • Safe Road Crossing
Wester Ceddens Road links local residents to 4 primary schools, 1 secondary school, 2 nurseries, local shops and 2 churches. During term time the council provides 4 school crossing patrol personnel however, outside of school drop off, lunch and pick up times residents risk their lives attempting to cross Wester Cleddens Road. Furthermore, numerous housing developments have been built on and around Wester Cleddens Road which has increased traffic and the population.

  • Make GCSE English exams fair for students with Dyslexia
Many children with dyslexia are exceptionally gifted at English but will now struggle to pass their GCSE due to how many marks are dedicated to spelling and punctuation. This is discrimination and can only have a negative effect on their futures. It can also negatively impact their mental health. Both of my children are dyslexic and both have a gift for writing. Their school teachers say they are very talented, however being dyslexic they cannot grasp spelling however hard they try. They also struggle with handwriting and remembering punctuation and because of this will possibly fail to obtain a C at GCSE even if they get full marks for everything else. I know they are not unique. 10% of the population are dyslexic. Taking away marks for poor spelling, not just in English but other subjects too, could mean that these students may not be able to access further education, even if they are exceptionally bright. Dyslexic children are being set up to fail all because of spelling. I believe this approach is archaic and needs to change now.

  • Keep Bristol parks and open spaces free for all
Many fitness instructors and dog professionals are small businesses that do not employ anyone. We do what we do because we love it, not to make big profits. We offer services that are of great value to the public and the local authority. We believe Bristol City Council should be supporting self employed people running small businesses, not making money from us.

  • Safety measure for pedestrians at the junction of Friern Barnet Lane and High Road (A1000)
There are 3 primary schools and a secondary school in the immediate area. There is huge pedestrian traffic in the area and crossing Friern Barnet Lane is incredibly dangerous It is unsafe to cross the road. Families are forced to walk on the road as there is no pavement on the southside of Friern Barnet Lane Encouraging children to walk to school is important not only for health but also for the environment.

  • Save Barrington Court Gardens
Camden's plans for houses on these sites are a really bad idea for several reasons. These will NOT be Social Housing and it is very unlikely that they'll be able to sell these plots at any profit. Camden's previous attempts at developments nearby have resulted in empty apartments. Local Residents' concerns about what will be built on the sites are being ignored so that Camden have a chance of selling them off to a private developer. Please sign our petition to object to development of these 3 sites. It is now time for Camden to listen to the local community. Your voice counts!

  • Hands off Porthkerry... protect our park for wildlife and people!
Development of this much loved Country Park could lead to more parking, roads, paths and buildings and an inevitable increase in visitors, sewage and litter,in what is a very sensitive ecological Area. The idea of leasing these areas to private companies could lead to local residents being excluded from large sections of the park. We believe that the Vale of Glamorgan Council have not considered the impact these development plans would have on the local wildlife. Porthkerry supports many vulnerable wildlife species such as adders, bats, bull finches and a number of rare tree and plant species (venomous snakes and people in tents do not mix). Even more concerning is the fact that the Vale of Glamorgan Council has completely ignored the findings of the ground breaking "State of Nature" report. This report clearly stated that the UK has lost 40per cent of it's wildlife since the 1950's and that e everyone has a duty, including all levels of government, to do their utmost to help protect the UK's remaining wildlife. Instead of looking for development opportunities the Council should be looking at extending these parks and helping to protect our biodiversity.

  • Stop abusing the national security clause to deport highly skilled migrants
The Home Office is abusing a clause designed to protect us from terrorism to deport doctors, engineers, lawyers and other highly skilled migrants because of common, everyday tax errors. It’s destroying lives of families who have come here legally and worked hard for years paying taxes and contributing to our society. Nisha Mohite, a pharmaceutical specialist working to develop anti-cancer drugs has lost her job, her home and her savings after the Home Office used an anti-terrorism clause to try and deport her because of an error her accountant made. HRMC was happy with her prompt repayment and took no action, yet now she faces a being marked a “terrorist” and deported. Father of two Owais Raja, was woking as a college lecturer before he lost everything when his accountant made an error in his tax returns. His accountant is now in prison after being convicted for fraud but Owais has been left unable to pay for his wife’s medical care and his family of four are facing deportation from the country they call home. Nisha and Owais are not alone, over 1000 highly skilled migrants have been affected by the Home Office’s cruel use of the clause. Together we are demanding the Home Office uses the clause for what it was designed to do, protect us from terrorists, not deport our doctors, teachers, scientists and lawyers.

  • Help the Mau Mau Bar on Portobello Road survive.
The Licensing officials at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea are reviewing licensing hours of the Mau Mau Bar on Portobello Road. At present its 11pm in the week and midnight Friday Saturday. This will make it very hard for the bar to survive as it needs the after pub revenue from the area to carry on trading. What is needed is that Mau Mau has the same licensing as the other bars in Portobello such Ukai which sell alcohol till 1am on the weekend and 12 in the week. Lest we forget that Mau Mau is the LAST proper neighbourhood bar come live music venue, with pub prices and a truly mixed clientele that 7 days a week puts on all manner of great music, spoken word and bands of all ages who play blues, jazz, reggae, ski, soul, punk and rock n roll that reflects the needs of the area. For many young bands this is one of the few places where they can play live and start their career while, for us the patrons, this is the only place where one can see greats acts for a £5. For example, over the Portobello Live festival Mau Mau fielded 24 bands many local and from far afield as South Korea and France and Latin America. So please sign this petition and as soon as we a reach a significant number of signatures we will present it to the council and hope they grant said license.

  • Let Trump Baby Fly
Donald Trump is a big, angry baby with a fragile ego. He's also a racist demagogue who is a danger to women, immigrants and minorities and a mortal threat to world peace and the very future of life on earth. Moral outrage is water off a duck’s back to Trump, but he really seems to hate it when people make fun of him. So when Trump visits the UK on Friday the 13th of July this year, we want to make sure he knows that all of Britain is looking down on him and laughing at him. That's why a group of us have chipped in and raised enough money to have a 6 meter high blimp made by a professional inflatables company, to be flown in the skies over Parliament Square during Trump's visit. Unfortunately, we need the Mayor of London's permission to be able to fly Trump Baby from Parliament Square - and Sadiq's team at City Hall have told us that flying Trump Baby does not qualify as a 'protest'. They are insisting that the only form of protest that is legally allowable on their land is "a gathering of people, with banners and placards." We are fairly sure this doesn't make any sense, but their key objection is that flying a large inflatable will occupy a (5x5M) corner of the square which will then not be available for gatherings of people with banners and placards - thereby depriving them of freedom of speech. So we need to demonstrate that there isn't, in practice, anyone planning to protest Trump's visit who would not in fact welcome a 6m high orange baby with Trump’s malevolent face flying in the sky over Parliament during this period.
