Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani is planning a tour of Myanmar, whose government has been accused of genocide due to the mass murdering of the Rohingya Muslim community. The United Nations has described the case in Myanmar as a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing.” Nearly 700,000 people have been forced to flee their homes and leave the country since August. For Leeds United to play football matches against local teams in this climate of fear is to lend credibility and respectability to this campaign of abuse. It will tarnish the reputation of a great football club, particularly as the decision is most likely driven by making money. The tour is being sponsored by AYA bank, a private bank in Myanmar and the owner of Leeds United has business interests in the country. Big bosses are using Leeds United for personal gain and condoning horrific human rights abuses in the process. This is simply wrong. The Rohingya community in the UK, Amnesty International and UK politicians have already spoke out against the tour. Leeds United's own social media channels have advised fans to wait further instruction before travelling to the region. The tour not only risks players' and fans' safety, it is seemingly blind to the horrific abuse taking place in Myanmar.

This is the last bank in the community and must remain open and a fully functioning bank branch to allow the residents and businesses in the town to function, trade and undertake their financial affairs. Whilst there remains a Post Office and some banking can be undertaken through this two kiosk facility in part of the co-operative supermarket it is not an adequate or appropriate banking facility for our town. The nearest alternative bank is at least 2.5 miles away in the neighbouring town of Cannock. This branch is constantly busy and transport links and times of access will hinder the trading hours and conditions of businesses; increase the risk of crime with cash takings being transported greater distances and routes; isolate vulnerable members of our community with limited access to longer public transport journey times. Hednesford has been undergoing considerable housing and business expansion over the last few years and this will accelerate further in to the next few years including a significant increase in tourist and leisure visitors through the town to Cannock Chase an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and premium destination for mountain biking. Hednesford has always had a Lloyds, we implore you therefore to reconsider.

I have always regarded Clifton Hill sports centre as an asset to the city and understand its importance within the community. The facility has attained excellent user numbers over the years and its closure would not be in the best interests of the city The centre closed in March due to a roof leak and a burst pipe, but the council won't commit to a reopening. Help the city get its much loved Clifton Hill sports centre back in service! It has left an irreplaceable void in peoples lives. It was a real community hub used by all ages from toddlers to pensioners and all socio economic groups. Exeter is bidding to be the UK's most 'active city' and so closing the centre is insanity! Come on Exeter City Council tell us it will reopen - it was only some snow through the roof and a few burst pipes!

Restriction of media freedom in Hungary has had serious, and still deteriorating, consequences for democratic order in Central Europe. Hungarian Government pressure has forced nearly all significant independent media outlets into closure or pro-government ownership. Journalists in public media organisations report overt direction of editorial policy, and even of article content, by the Orbán government. Interpretation is frequently presented as fact and outright fabrication is far from unknown. At the same time the influence of Russian propaganda in the country is growing especially (though not only) in coverage of international affairs. The Hungarian media now follows Moscow's line in describing as 'terrorists' the regular Ukranian armed forces fighting Russian-backed insurgents in Donetsk. That judgement now appears excessively optimistic. A radio service broadcasting objective information to the country from London would make a valuable contribution to regional stability. Following the imminent re-development of St Philip’s Church Dorridge, and their subsequent relocation of groups to the St James’ site at Bentley Heath, lettings and storage space has been identified as a major problem. To alleviate the problem of storage and hall usage, and following discussions regarding the needs of St Philip’s and St James’ Churches, Noah’s Ark Playgroup were initially asked to vacate the premises by the end of July 2018. Having failed to find any suitable alternative premises in the local area, Noah’s Ark Playgroup would have been forced to close. However, following extensive negotiation between the Church PCC, Noah’s Ark Trustees and Staff, a compromise solution has been reached for now. From September 2018, Noah’s Ark Playgroup will remain open for two mornings per week, namely Monday and Tuesday. The PCC will review the situation by December 2018 at the latest, and advise Noah's Ark if they need to find alternative accommodation for the academic year 2019-20. Until recently I ran a local business close to the sites of these two buildings, that has recently been forced to close. Whilst I do not attribute the closure to the state of these buildings it is clear that they have both become eyesores and have a negative impact on one of the primary gateways into Stalybridge. The appearance of them on such an important route into the town centre adds to the general impression of a Town in decline. Many residents and business owners in Stalybridge would like it to be a thriving and welcoming town, these sites are completely incompatible with that image and it is disappointing that Tameside Council have allowed them to sit empty and shuttered or boarded up for such a long time. This is particularly unacceptable given that the Deputy Leader of Tameside Council, Councillor John Taylor said of the old Casablanca site clearance “These are great times for Stalybridge. We are finally going to see the end of a building that has spoiled the town centre of for almost eight years”. “Empty buildings are not only a blight, they are a wasted asset, especially at a time when we have to work so much harder in pursuit of prosperity.” Many local people would agree that these sites are also spoiling our town centre and are wasted assets at a time when Tameside Council is disposing of other properties and making cuts to services and raising council tax because of cuts in Government funding.
