• Bring Anna Home to her Family
Anna Campbell was an utterly committed and courageous woman who put her belief in social justice before her own life. This commitment took her to Syria to fight the Islamic State and Isil, and whilst fighting alongside the female Kurdish Women's Protection Units (YPJ) in northern Syria, she was tragically killed by turkish airstrikes last week on the 15th March. I come from the same home town as Anna, and have known her family for many years. They are all truly incredible individuals who have worked tirelessly for social and environmental issues and are a credit to our small town. Now even in their grief they want to continue to raise awareness of the suffering and the cause of the Kurdish people. But they also want their daughter and sister back, so that they can say goodbye properly to the woman they love so much. • Fighting for the future of Stockton Heath Recycling Centre
Although the Stockton Heath site is the smallest of Warrington’s three recycling centres it is considered by many to be the busiest. Residents from Stockton Heath, Appleton, Grappenhall, Thelwall, Walton, Stretton, Hatton and Lymm use the Centre. If the Stockton Heath facility is closed, local residents will have to travel across town to dispose of their rubbish. It is important that we show the strength of local opposition to the loss of the facility.

  • Save Our Services
To keep our Library and Tourist Information Centre as it is. Not to close the facilities. The Tourist information is opposite a coach park and car park that is often used by visitors and locals alike to find local directions and event information for the local and surrounding areas. The Library is an important place in the community as there is a wide range of subject matter and an awesome place to go and see a friendly face or two. For some members of the Communitte other than a bit of shopping it may be the only other place they go to through the week. So please show your support for this vital facility and sign the petition. Please also contact Pembroke Town and/or County Councillors to raise your concerns and objections to the proposal for closing the Pembroke Library and the Tourist Information Centre

  • Stop the plans to develop a Subsidiary Company (SPV) in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
This would be privatisation by the back door. The company would be outside the NHS publicly owned and provided structure. It would own all the assets, land and buildings transferred to it. This would not be an acceptable disposal of public assets. At some stage in the future, it will be at risk of an aggressive buyout which will remove all once publicly owned assets building and land transferred with it, into profiteers hands, forever. It would remove the rights of the workforce to NHS terms and conditions after the statutory TUPE date and in any case, in the event of a downturn in revenue or other ‘financial crisis’ scenario and to new employees. It would create a 2 tier workforce as new employees will have less security, terms and conditions, holiday rights, sick pay and no access to NHS pension. This is likely to impact negatively on patient experience if the new workforce is more transient, without the public sector ethos. It’s a VAT scam? Certainly, it’s worrying that many of the SubCo plans seem to emphasise this VAT “gambit”. Gloucestershire, for example, told staff it would save £35m over 10 years through this ruse, whilst the staff savings were merely “unquantifiable”. And the Department of Health has advised against it. But the biggest similar scheme to date, UnitingCare in Cambridgeshire, collapsed spectacularly – and one of the major reasons (according to both NHS England and the National Audit Office reports) was because the NHS signed the contract on the basis of incorrect advice about their VAT position, meaning an unexpected £5m a year was added to the costs and the arrangement collapsed. There has been no consultation to date with members of the public and patients. Privatising cleaning services lead to development of MRSA a study shows. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314890.php By the time this new move is shown to be a disaster it will be too late. A Special Purpose Vehicle could prove to be a false economy. We are not opposed to change for the better, but we view the input from management consultants and attempts to privatise NHS services and estates, with suspicion. Please explore other options. New research shows use of Management Consultants increase inefficiency. http://www.bmj.com/content/360/bmj.k893. https://www.opendemocracy.net/ournhs/jonathan-allsop/time-to-halt-nhs-gravy-train-for-management-consultants http://www.bmj.com/content/360/bmj.k893

  • Cambridge Anlaytica
This is incredibly important for the freedom of people and democracy around the world. It is difficult enough for people to make a decision of importance based on information which is provided by a Biased and propagandist media. Psychological manipulation and deliberate large scale misinformation is despicable and very dangerous. Why was a Phd professor having been asked to leave Cambridge university return after 3 years in South America , then allowed to continue at Cambridge under his new name of SPECTRE ? It beggars belief. Why was Steve Bannon involved in both BREXIT and the Trump vote Along of course with many others ......

  • Defer the Merger of Taunton Deane and West Somerset
On the 19th March, Taunton Deane Borough Council voted by a narrow margin to merge with West Somerset Council to create a new Borough Council. Since 2013, repeated assurances to the people in both Boroughs have been made that each would remain independent; although the two councils have been working to provide some services together in order to reduce costs, and utilising a common senior management team, it has always been maintained that the two groups would remain separate. This move to merge the councils contradicts the assurances given and is being taken without a democratic mandate from the electorate of either borough. Furthermore, the local paper ran a poll which showed the majority of people did not want the merger to take place. We must uphold democracy and stop this happening until the public can have a real say in the future of their councils.

  • Anti-bullying classes at School
Raising awareness of bullying is an important issue to many parents, carers, and young people who are victims of bullying. It is becoming more and more frequent at this school, to the point where children are having to be relocated at other schools. Bullying has a devastating affect on young people and their families. The rates of suicide and self harm in young people is on the rise due to suspected bullying, whether it be cyber bullying, physical and/or psychological. This matter is important to me as family members of mine have experienced bullying directly and I have witnessed the effects it has on them both physically and mentally. There were over 24,000 Childline counselling sessions with children about bullying in 2016/2017 and more than 16,000 young people are absent from school due to bullying, as stated by the NSPCC. This is happening in schools because young people are not being educated on how bullying others and making a person feel worthless effects the young person whom is being bullied. Children who are being bullied also don't know where to turn to or what to do, this may also apply to the children that are bullying others. I feel that making a point of having set times where children, parents, teachers, can learn about the full effects of bullying may just save some lives, this will allow children to attend their place of education without fear. School's have a duty of care to children, and, currently this duty is not being carried out. Children need to feel safe in their environment in order for them to grow and learn. It's about time the school acted on it's anti-bullying policy and protected the children that are under their care. I have attached the link to an Inquiry into bullying and harrasment in schools, it's worth a read to get a feel of how the young people in schools feel about this subject, and notice the age of the kids that are giving feedback. This needs to be stopped. http://www.parliament.scot/S5_Equal_Opps/General%20Documents/Children_in_Scotland_-_commissioned_by_EHRiC.pdf

  • Stop Manchester Airport's proposed drop-off charging
Airports as a rule are already over-expensive and exploit captive-audiences who need to use them for air travel. There is no alternative if one wishes to fly. These privately-owned behemoths (not just Manchester Airport) kowtow to foreign shareholders where profitability and dividends seems to come before service to the public, who after all, are the life-blood of the airport. There will be absolute driver chaos in the airport as people try to avoid paying this punitive admission fee; there is already a £3 charge to taxi drivers to collect passengers from Terminal 1 which they pass on to the passenger. Only in the UK do airport owners get away with charging an admission tax.
