It will be an exclusive Parliamentary briefing from Sir Patrick Vallance, Government Chief Scientific Advisor, on the latest science on the climate emergency. Sir Patrick will deliver a revised version of the presentation which the Prime Minister described as his “Road to Damascus” moment on climate change, updated to take account of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment reports which have been published in recent months.
Sir Patrick will be joined by Prof Gideon Henderson, the Chief Scientific Adviser for Defra, Prof Stephen Belcher, Met Office Chief Scientist and Prof Emily Shuckburgh, Director of Cambridge Zero, the University of Cambridge's major climate change initiative. There will be a Q&A session following the presentation, during which Parliamentarians will be invited to ask the scientific experts any questions they may have.
It will be supported by Peers for the Planet.
*11 July, 15:30 – 17:00*
Please call your MPs office today and write them an email. It will take minutes. Thank you.
Why is this important?
The single most important thing is that policy makers are informed of the science of how our planet is rapidly changing. As COVID has shown with daily briefings flanked by scientists, we were able to save thousands of lives. We need the same approach 'guided by the science' now to prevent runaway climate breakdown and an unlivable future for our children.
