Bring Back Spitting Image - The time is ripe for Political Satire
Hey you, you out there in TV land. The girl with the purse strings, the guy with the cheque book, the trans with the credit card. Whomever you are.
Make this happen, bring back Spitting Image.
We are swamped by TV and film re-boots, most of which are utter drivel. The time is ripe for political satire to be mainstream again.
There are just so many easy targets, low hanging fruit in the current political crop, that it would once again be comedy gold.
From Hilary Benn turning out to be warmonger, whilst his father spins in his grave, to that Peace-monger Jermey Corbyn who would rather have a bike than Nukes. Or the fantastic new aircraft carriers with no planes to fly on them
Or we have the American primaries. God almighty Trump, Clinton, Cruz and Sanders. Even Monica Lewinsky could make a comeback tour “I’m not voting democrat, last time they left a bad taste in my mouth”.
The In/Out EU referendum, IndyRef2 in Scotland. Austerity, austerity, austerity, our handling of the refugee crisis. There is just so much waiting to be satirised.
Although I do see someone already has a head start on you, with that Nigel Farage character we see everywhere, he’s hilarious. What No, what do you mean, he can’t be, he’s a real person………….feck!
Have a look at this clip about the testing ground. Scarily accurate isn’t it.

As a kid I learned more about politics from Spitting Image, than I ever did at school or even on the news, because it was fun, it was interesting and it captivated our attention.
So enough of the Big Brothers, say goodbye to the Geordie Shores, please get the Celebrities out of here.
Bring back Spitting Image.
I will admit we did get Newzoids in 2015, but it was a pale comparison to the master, it just wasn't edgy enough and didn’t have the energy, zest or even charm of the original. Thus we need to bring back the Master (after all Doctor Who’s done that same thing enough times).

Why is this important?
Politics in the UK, EU and across the world has never been more important, nor has the need to satirise it. Currently MSM fails to question our politicians in a way that resonates. Maybe our news and current affairs programmes have always been that way, but TV programming hasn't.
Spitting Image was the attack dog of the MSM in the 80's. It didn't matter who you were, if you were a public figure, it would tackle you, it would bring you to the ground, it would openly challenge you and it would mock you. But always in a humorous way. Yes it was offensive, but more importantly it was truthful, accurate and downright side splittingly funny.
We need this now more than ever.
