Clear the backlog of asylum applications

Asylum seekers are held in temporary accommodation where the conditions are poor, and they are unsupported for prolonged periods of time due to the backlog of asylum applications in the Home Office. We are calling on Home Secretary Suella Braverman to make changes to the system by employing more asylum casework staff and simplifying the guidance to decision making. This will make the process much more efficient and enable asylum seekers to be swiftly moved out of temporary accommodation into more suitable housing. It is estimated that the government are spending £5.6 million per day on hotels, thus streamlining the application process will result in the government making financial savings due to less money being spent on hotels and other temporary sites. Additionally, asylum seekers can become productive members of society sooner by being able to work once they are granted asylum.

Why is this important?

We implore you to join us in our campaign as we believe that adequate housing is a basic human right. Many asylum seekers have fled from persecution and violence, experiencing extreme trauma in the process of being displaced from their original homes. It is vital that they get support and the human right to the safety of their own home.
