Every home owner must make a will
Please introduce a law that requires people to make a legal will when they buy a house.
Why is this important?
When someone dies without making a will, it can cause confusion, bitter disputes and bereaved families being left financially insecure.
Currently only 3 in 10 people have a will. People often don't want to make a will as they don't want to think about dying or they just don't get round to it.
If the law made every home-owner have a legal will before they could buy a house, then it would greatly reduce these problems.
A will does not need to be drawn up by a solicitor as it can just be a simple statement of your wishes. The only legal requirement is that it be signed by 2 witnesses. So it would not add too much effort or expense to a house purchase.
