A further thank you to all that have signed the petition. I think the petition has been really valuable in raising the level of concern and reflecting the strength of feeling. Oxfordshire county council is working with cyclox and they are in discussions regarding proposals for short term changes to the Plain roundabout. I am hopeful that these proposals become postive chagnes.

Anthony Kirkwood of Oxfordshire County Council has responded to me confirming that they are setting out proposals for how to improve safety for cyclists across the city through the development of our Local Transport and Connectivity Plan, which is currently the subject of public consultation.

Today I have emailed Anneliese Dodds for the third time and the Oxfordshire County Council. In hope that they understand we cannot let the momentum of this disappear. We are now so close to 10,000 signatures please keep signing and sharing. Many Thanks, Nicola

There are a couple of petitions to save the fields here: one with 59 000 signatures
https://www.change.org/p/oxford-city-council-save-the-fields-in-iffley-village-for-community-and-nature
and another more recent one about the white badger and saving her habitat.

The campaigners have been lobbying our councilors and MP Anneliese Dodds for over 18 months.. We are expecting a planning application to come forward this month.
Dangers on the plain also lie in safe alternatives upstream, like Meadow Lane
but also the option of a link between the Iffley Rd and the eastern side of the tow path. A bridge has been discussed to allow this, particularly when the new Wadham
accommodation was built on the Iffley Rd but the idea was never taken any further.

There is also a threat to the Principal Quiet Route OXR 18 which provides a safe route between Littlemore, Rose Hill and Iffley into the City Centre, avoiding the Plain.
Oxford City Council wishes to put a housing development on an ancient meadow in Iffley with access from this quiet route and turn a lane used by up to 900 people/day for active travel into an access road for cars and delivery vehicles. Our survey shows that 78% of users chose this route for safety and 92% that there was no comparable alternative. 84% said that a housing development here would discourage or stop them from using it.

I wanted to let you know that BBC radio Oxford interviewed myself and Andrew Gant of Oxfordshire county council this morning. I hope it promotes more people to sign the petition and helps push the Oxfordshire County council to make the changes needed. Thankyou so much to everyone who has signed and shared so far.
