Community Matchfunding in Tower Hamlets through the Social Value Levy

We aim to build a platform that drives positive change in Tower Hamlets.

Our mission is to identify and support local individuals, charities, and CICs working on impactful initiatives, while encouraging the council to match the funds raised by local residents. This approach fosters grassroots, community-driven action.
Some of the inspiring campaigns include;

1.  providing canal boats as housing for the homeless,
2. creating community gardens for residents,
3. supporting individuals with job training,
4. and supplying musical instruments for local groups.

Our aim is to get Tower Hamlets Council to allocate funds from the Social Value Levy to support and resource these activities via a community fundraising platform.

Why is this important?

It’s important because community-driven initiatives address local needs in a way that top-down approaches often cannot.

By empowering residents, charities, and CICs, these projects foster a sense of ownership, collaboration, and pride in the community.

Leveraging the Tower Hamlets Social Value Levy and matchfunding amplifies the impact, ensuring that resources are used effectively to create tangible benefits, such as housing solutions, green spaces, and cultural enrichment.

This approach not only improves quality of life but also builds a stronger, more resilient Tower Hamlets.

How it will be delivered

Once we gather over 500 signatures, we will present the petition to Councillor Musthak Ahmed at the Tower Hamlets Council offices, who is in charge of Jobs, Enterprise, Skills, and Growth.
