Open up empty buildings to shelter the homeless in Newcastle this Winter

We ask you to put pressure upon the relevant authorities to open up empty buildings in the Newcastle area to provide shelter for the homeless members of our community.

Why is this important?

The amount of homeless people on Newcastle's streets has risen visibly and dramatically, particularly in the last year. When temperatures in the city inevitably reach freezing this winter, I want to be able to offer them a shelter in unused and empty buildings. Please do your bit now and sign this petition.

How it will be delivered

I am planning to deliver the petition in person.

I am currently in touch with a local government minister for Newcastle city council to try and arrange a meeting. I have asked the Big Issue campaign Fill 'em up if they would like to collaborate with us. I have also contacted the local arm of Shelter to see if they would like to get involved, and I have sent an enquiry to LandAid to ask if they could offer us any funding for the project.
