Scotland's Rural and Island Young People's Call for Action
To elected representatives and decision makers;
Education, training, and jobs – the things that you promise in Scotland’s Youth Guarantee - are very important to us but other things are equally important in our individual journeys to a positive destination. We need action to tackle climate change. We need sustainable, locally produced, and affordable good food. We need enough of the right kind of housing, and we need access to activities and services, supported by a culture that promotes our mental wellbeing.
We recognise and value the commitment of the Scottish Parliament, of CoSLA and of our local councils to ensuring rural and island Scotland is the best place in the world for young people to live and make a living.
We, as young people of rural and island Scotland, invite you to be ambitious in delivering not just for us but with us. We invite you to underpin your ambition by committing to:
1. Acting on priority areas identified at the 2021 Scottish Rural Parliament
2. Identify the actions and work with us to find solutions, involving us in early consultation phases whenever possible.
3. Communicating and being transparent about progress.
4.Identify a Minister to have a named remit and accountability for rural and island youth.
Yours Sincerely,
Rural and Island Young People

Why is this important?
Growing up in Rural and Island Scotland is a unique experience, with a diverse range of opportunity and challenges. This distinct experience needs to be recognised, and rural and island young people’s voices need to be heard on decisions that impact them.
Rural and Island Young People have the support of a range of youth organisations but now we are looking for tangible commitment from elective representatives and decision makers to ensure meaningful participation.
