Source of data for the 38 Degrees Petition: Stand Up to Racism Dorset demands - Stop racial profiling by Dorset Police
The UK Government’s Stop and Search data, published 19 March 2020 (link below) states that “London had the highest stop and search rates for all ethnic groups apart from Black (Dorset) and White (Merseyside). Police in Dorset were 25 times more likely to stop Black people than White people (the biggest difference between ethnic groups).”
The table showing the stop and search rate per 1,000 people by ethnicity and area has Dorset with the highest number of Black people at 62 per 1,000. Shockingly, this is 11 higher than the Metropolitan Police at 51. The government’s source for these statistics is stated as National Statistics Police powers and procedures, England and Wales year ending 31 March 2019.
