Stop the Dumfries & Galloway Pylons

This campaign has ended.

Please don't build 50 metre tall, high voltage pylons across Dumfries & Galloway.

Why is this important?

- The proposed pylons will be massively visually intrusive in what is one of the few beautiful, unspoiled parts of the UK left.

- They will harm the environment and local wildlife.

- They will be hugely damaging to the tourist sector in Dumfries and Galloway, a key driver of the local economy.

- The pylon line will seriously affect house values and the ability to sell houses for miles around due to its size and visual impact.

- Other alternatives, such as putting the line underground or under the sea, are available and could be adopted.

The Dumfries & Galloway Standard has carried the story about the pylons. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/thousands-sign-petition-against-pylons-6170329 - albeit not entirely accurately.

Please share and ask as many folk as possible to sign the petition. Thank you all.

Please make sure that you let your elected representatives know how you feel about the pylons. You can copy and paste a list of the email addresses of all relevant councillors, MSPs and MPs at Alan Jones website here http://dumgalagainstpylons.org/contacting-elected-representatives/.

The public meeting about the pylons which Lower Nithsdale Federation of Community Councils (LNFCC) were organising at the Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries has been cancelled by them and will not now take place on 5 August at 7.30 as previously advertised.

From dumgalagainstpylons.org:
"the Beauly-Denny 400kV super-grid that no-one wanted achieved over 17,500 objected but was still consented by the Scottish Government. So we need to do better - much better than this and we will only achieve this by everyone getting behind the petition. If you have signed it make sure that you get four other people to sign it as well. Then get them to ensure that each of the four who signed also gets four more to sign. Do this 5 times and you have 1056 signatures, after 6 times you have 4224 signatures and after 8 times you have a massive 67,584. Once more and we will have enough to make everyone, including the Scottish Government, sit up and take notice that we don't want this current proposal. SPEN will have to come back with something that is more sympathetic to people, visual amenity and the environment".

We've nearly got 300 signatures. Thank you. If anyone wants to feed back to SPEN directly they can do so through their web form here http://www.spenergynetworks.co.uk/pages/dumfries_galloway_feedback_form.asp
