Stop Veterinary Surgeons Profiteering From Our Wildlife
We the undersigned request a review of the current Wildlife Act dated 1981 and the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. We request these acts be extended beyond the provision of euthanasia and emergency only care for indigenous wildlife.
Why is this important?
We would like all Veterinary Practices to be bound by a national code of conduct and anyone rescuing sick or injured wildlife should have the assurance the animal will receive the same care throughout the country at no cost.
We accept veterinary practices have overheads and bills to pay but as custodians of the planet we are surely all obligated to be responsible for all wildlife care and welfare.
The level of responsibility and treatment offered varies enormously. Some surgeries will offer care and medication free, some will only carry out euthanasia with no attempt to treat or rehabilitate even a minor injury. The worst will cruelly suggest returning the animal to where it was found to die, untreated and still suffering for lack of remuneration.
