Traffic Calm the A131 in Sudbury
We are campaigning for traffic calming measures on Ballingdon Hill, Ballingdon Street, Cross Street & Stour Street (but actually support a town wide campaign). This might include: a 20's Plenty speed limit where appropriate; 7.5 tonne HGV weight restrictions (Church Street junction); A12 HGV signage to Sudbury via the Colchester United Community Stadium (to avoid Cross Street); Vehicle Activated Speed Awareness Signs, Cycle and Pedestrian enhancements, a multi storey car park for Cross Street residents and a Speed Camera on Ballingdon Hill. The campaign would also like dialogue to understand Suffolk County Council's plans for enforcement, something that has suffered due to austerity cuts (although Council Tax has increased : / ?).
Why is this important?
County Council Elections take place in May. This petition is your opportunity to tell your future Suffolk County Councillor to roll up their sleeves and invest in Sudbury street life. Sudbury's Town, District and County Councillors are well aware of the need for traffic infrastructure modernisation, but other than speculating on a Western Bypass that may happen in a future decade the reality is little if any effort has been made to manage existing traffic beyond the bare minimum. Indeed many villages have better traffic calming measures compared to Sudbury's crumbling roads. The UK Government is beginning to publicly acknowledge the health dangers of emissions and County Council's Nationwide are adopting the 20's Plenty initiative. It's time for Sudbury to Move With The Times....
