Autistic & other special needs provision crisis in York
We wish City of York council and the Vale of York clinical commissioning group to conduct an urgent review of autistic and other special needs assessment and support services for children and adults within the City of York area and to make the results of this review public and transparent.
In an effort to ensure its transparency we wish that this review should take evidence not only from professionals and professional bodies but also from parent representatives and from parents themselves and that the hearings be open to all members of the public including the media

Why is this important?
Parents children and adults awaiting an autistic or other special needs assessment are left with little or no support until such assessments are carried out.
Even when a diagnosis is made which is very often a battle in itself the support is very often inadequate and many many parents are made to feel at fault by professionals who seem not to listen to the concerns and experiences of parents which sometimes can bring families under the scunity of child social services
Parents feel isolated and helpless and most importantly those needing support dont recieve the help they so desperately need.
