• Human Rights for Dementia residents
Too many residents with dementia are denied regular access to outdoor spaces, eg gardens, patio areas, around the nursing home. The barriers I come across are "they feel secure inside"; "they may fall and hurt themselves" Sadly these residents only feel secure indoors because they have been locked in under DOLS regulations, for months and years , on end; the same could be said of prisoners in Belmarsh ! they would feel insecure outside after being locked away for ages ! The only way some of these residents with dementia experience the outdoors is if family or friends take them out; due to age and infirmity , family sometimes cannot manage this. People with dementia are no different from others in their need for sunshine and Vitamin D; in their need for emotional and spiritual uplifting by experiencing wind in their faces, hearing birdsong; looking at flowers and colours; in their need for mental and sensory stimulation; in fact they need these benefits more so than others who have the liberty to go where and when they please. people in nursing homes are prone to osteoporosis, (fragility of bones) , partly because they do not have exposure to sunshine, and also to exercise. I see them languishing in wheelchairs often for the whole day; pale certainly; apathetic often, in need of sensory and mental stimulation; Half an hour twice a day in the garden in the company of a care assistant would make a big difference to their lives. My husband is in a lovely nursing home, with kind staff and carers; he is fortunate that I can and do take him out regularly ; even in inclement weather; not everyone has the same opportunity.

  • Let Doctors decide those who need ESA/Sick Benefits
Like many people I have found myself on the receiving end of ATOS deciding I am fit to work. Despite my GP sending me to the assessment with a supporting letter. My GP knows I am not fit enough to work. And there are thousands of people out there who are the same. Forcing people into situations that they can't cope with will cause more deaths, more illnesses and cost the NHS more in the long run. It's. It through choice I don't work. I am a qualified teacher. And shortly after qualifying was told by a school they didn't think I was capable of 'keeping up'. My health drastically deteriorated and now I can't work. Yet ATOS seem to think me and thousands of others out there are able to work..... and work any job. The whole system needs looking at and revising. How many people need to die before something is done about this.

  • Keep NHS public not private
This is so important because many of those most in need of a National Health Service are the poor and long term chronically sick. These people cannot afford or get private health care. Without the NHS, we will be like America with 40% not having any health care cover. Once lost the NHS will NEVER be recovered, so act now to keep it. The NHS is the most cost effective & efficient health care system in the world, despite what the politicians keep saying about it. Love your NHS & fight to save it, it's the best thing Britain ever created and it's worth fighting for. The rest of the world knows it, we know it, the government knows it - so tell them to keep their grubby hands off!

  • Keep NHS free for all.
Lord Prior, has just suggested to parliament that he plans to launch an inquiry to consider whether we should move away from a tax-funded NHS towards one funded by insurance and co-payments. This is an attack on the core principles of the NHS that have been in place since 1946.

  • Bird flu jabs
I know of someone who had to have the jab because she was working with children. She developed narcolepsy and depression ultimately taking her own life. Her sister gave an interview to The Guardian and name GlaxoSmithKline as the manufacturer. A GO is quoted as not understanding why the DWP won't agree to compensation. See article: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jul/13/woman-narcolepsy-swine-flu-jab-no-quality-life

  • Bring Mental Health awareness into education
This is important because more young and older men and women suffer from a selection of mental health illness and not many people are aware of what mental health illness are and what effect they have on a person who suffers from them. In school they need to give the information out to their pupils about what mental health is (without going into graphic details) so then their pupils are able to understand why someone may suffer from a mental health illness, how it effects such person and what they can do it ensure their own safety and well-being as well as other people around them. We need to give people a better understanding of the different challenges that mental health brings to a person who suffers from it. It's time we talked about it more and get people involved in voicing what mental health is.

  • Reform the personal independence payment assessment
Because you can't go on letting those of us who are genuinely sick get treated like we are benefit cheats. Of we have medical evidence to back up our claim then the benefits shouled get awarded. My doctor knows I cant get in and out of the bath alone, but an assessor decided I can do it myself after a 60 minute assessment. We can't go on ignoring this!

  • Ban skinny catwalk models!
France’s National Assembly has made it a criminal offence to employ dangerously skinny women on the catwalk. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-32987228. Under the new law, anyone running an agency employing undernourished models below an as-yet undefined Body Mass Index risks a six-month prison term and a €75,000 (£55,000) fine. Magazines will also have to indicate when a photograph of a model has been digitally ‘touched up’ to make her look skinnier or bulkier or face a €37,500 fine or up to 30 per cent of the sums spent on advertising. Spain bars models below a certain BMI from featuring in Madrid fashion shows, and Italy insists on health certificates for models. Brazil is considering demands to ban under-age or underweight models from its catwalks. The World Health Organization considers people with a BMI below 18.5 to be underweight and at risk of being malnourished. Presenting anorexic or malnourished models as fashionable figures encourages young women to adopt unhealthy eating patterns, and wrongly categorises natural feminine curvaceousness as 'fat' and unfashionable. For the truth about the modelling industry see http://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2013/jul/05/vogue-truth-size-zero-kirstie-clements.

  • Ban methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone
It is causing severe allergic reactions to thousands of people. It causes horrific reactions to the skin which includes severe itching, burning, swelling. Not only does it attack the skin but attacks the nervous system too- causing crippling nerve pains and who knows what long term effects.

  • No potentially harmful pesticides in Witney's public spaces!
My son just like many other children like to play under trees in the park. Imagine my horror when I realised that a chemical called glyphosate had been used in the public area he and his friends chose to play in. The tell-tale signs are all around the Wadards Meadow area of Cogges in Witney, but this petition is to ask Cottsway to withdraw its use on every public area managed by they in any part of the district and country. There are many questions about glyphosate's safety and various studies have highlighted many concerns. Whilst glyphosate's safety is in question, we politely and with respect ask that Cottsway Housing Association stops using immediately. Find out more about glyphosate here: http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_analysis/2379278/glyphosate_is_a_disaster_for_human_health.html

  • Add Tunisia Terror Incident to Government Compensation Scheme
Many involved with the incident in Tunisia will have suffered financial issues far greater than the level of payment offered by the Tourist agents/Travel agents. Many will need assistance with ongoing medical costs, counselling & therapy, other expenses. Holiday insurance does not cover acts of terrorism. To date the majority of those affected were British Citizens and should be supported by the British government to recover from the effects of this horrendous act both physically and mentally.
