• Reopen Lincoln Walk in centre
People are struggling to get a GP appointment so are turning to A&E, which puts more pressure on them! And has increased the waiting times even more. The walk in centre also saved my life from another potential stroke! By acting very quickly.

  • Clear Allergen Updates on the FRONT of food packaging
My 14 month old son, Max, suffers from an allergy to cow's milk. This means all dairy products and other products containing milk are out of the question for him. Because he is breastfed, it means I must be strictly dairy free too. Only a tiny amount of the allergen needs to be present in my breastmilk in order to cause a reaction in him.  Last week he suffered an allergic reaction after I ate a small slice of angel cake from the Co-Op. I had been regularly buying the same angel cake over the last 14 months from the Co-Op because it was safe for me to eat and did not contain any dairy products. While my diet is restricted it became my little treat.  On this occasion, unbeknown to me, the recipe had been changed and now contains milk. There was NOTHING on the front of the packet to alert me to this change. The packaging was identical to the original packaging.  It was only when I realised it tasted different that I checked the ingredients on the back of the packet that I discovered the change. Too late. We are "lucky" in that Max's allergy is a non-IGE allergy; in real terms, for us that means a delayed, non life threatening reaction which results in tummy troubles and a couple of weeks of disturbed sleep. But, what if he was anaphylactic to dairy? The consequences could have been MUCH worse. For some allergy sufferers this could have been a matter of life or death! I contacted the Co-Op who explained that legally they have done everything required of them by listing allergens in bold on the ingredients list, but they went on to admit they have "missed the mark" with this, and have promised to update the packaging immediately with an "allergy update", and to take steps to avoid this happening with future products. I am calling a for legal obligation for food manufacturers to display clear allergen update alerts on the FRONT of their packaging whenever one of the main 12 allergens are added: milk, cereals inculding wheat, rye, barley and oats, crustaceans, fish, nuts, soybeans, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphites, lupin and molluscs. Please sign this petition and help prevent a tragedy for someone who might not be as lucky as Max.

  • Provide support information after all TV shows that feature sexual violence
Statistics show that three quarters of survivors contacting Rape Crisis centres do so over an incident that occurred at least 12 months earlier (1). It has been shown that where television programmes include storylines on sexual violence, there has been an increase in calls to support helplines. The Rape Crisis Helpline experienced a 132% increase in calls after the showing of Broadchurch (2), a similar spike in calls to support helplines was experienced following the rape of David Platt in Coronation Street (3). This information shows that survivors are often prompted to seek support following depictions of sexual violence on television. We are concerned that whilst terrestrial channels have moved to provide support information, they are inconsistent in their approach and this information is not available at all when the same programmes are watched via the internet/download apps (4).  Having support information available consistently and across all platforms helps people access support when they need it. By not having this information available it can leave viewers unsafe when affected by such content. In addition, it can also give out confusing messages around consent, sex and rape, when support information is not given after storylines where content is less explicit – for example in storylines involving coercion. • Pause Bristol's 5G Rollout
Cities and towns around the world, including Brussels, Geneva, Florence and the XII Municipality of Rome are calling for a halt to 5G. US Senators and academics are warning against the untested technology and hundreds of scientists, doctors and leaders worldwide are appealing urgently for an immediate cease to the use of 5G's high frequency microwave radiation. Several coalitions of scientists including experts in the fields of biochemistry and radiation have warned that 5G technology is harmful to humans and all living things. The US group Physicians for Safe Technology state ‘there is convincing emerging scientific evidence causing great concern for the environment, with harm to mammals, insects and bacteria ... 5G technology will also consume significant amounts of energy, contrary to global climate goals.’ In their referenced document they state: Frequencies: 4G uses several different frequencies from 750MHz to about 2,400-5,000 MHz(2.4 GHz to 5 GHz- typical Wi Fi and cell phone) – 5G(proposed 5th generation) uses10GHz to 300GHz Wavelengths: 4G electromagnetic wavelengths are inches to feet long – 5G frequencies are in centimeters to millimeters Depth of Skin and Body Absorption: 4G microwave radiation (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) passes through bodies and the energy is absorbed by anything that contains water (can’t cook dry rice in a microwave oven), while 5G (5th Generation) penetrates only the outer layers of the skin in humans Distance Radiation Travels: 4G can travel dozens of miles in a line of sight and if poles are placed high. In experiments 5G can travel a few miles but is easily blocked by objects, trees and plants thus poles are planned for every 300 feet in cities Mechanisms of Harm: 4G emissions can cause oxidation of tissues (93 of 100 studies), 5G radiation can have its effect through heat (tissue destruction), through a resonance effect of increased vibration in an object the size of the wavelengths, and at low power levels through signaling of skin structures that can affect metabolism, the nervous system, the endocrine system, the reproductive system (declassified military studies) Amount of Testing Done: 4G technology has been tested by the military and by international scientists with an abundance of studies showing broad harm to animals, humans, plants, insects and bacteria. 5G technology has been studied by some in the military showing broad harm and some newer studies are showing damage to insects, tissue burns and overheating with streaming of data, but there has been no safety testing of 5G before it is rolled out. The 5G Appeal, signed by 233 scientists, states that “The current ICNIRP ”safety guidelines” are obsolete. All proofs of harm mentioned above arise although the radiation is below the ICNIRP “safety guidelines”. Therefore new safety standards are necessary. The reason for the misleading guidelines is that “conflict of interest of ICNIRP members due to their relationships with telecommunications or electric companies undermine the impartiality that should govern the regulation of Public Exposure Standards for non-ionizing radiation”. They state 'The 5G Appeal was prepared in 2017 by scientists and doctors who are urgently calling for the EU to halt the roll out of 5G due to serious potential health effects from this new technology. 5G will substantially increase exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) on top of the 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, etc. for telecommunications already in place. RF-EMF has been proven to be harmful for humans and the environment.' Radiation expert Professor Emeritus Joel Moskowitz cites studies including: 'Such MMW effects as alterations of cell growth rate and UV light sensitivity, biochemical and antibiotic resistivity changes in pathogenic bacteria, as well as many others are of potential significance for safety standards, but even local and short-term exposures were reported to produce marked effects. It should also be realized that biological effects of a prolonged or chronic MMW exposure of the whole body or a large body area have never been investigated. Safety limits for these types of exposures are based solely on predictions of energy deposition and MMW heating, but in view of recent studies this approach is not necessarily adequate.” (Pakhomov et al., 1998) Martin Pall, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at Washington State University lists four main dangers of 5G to humans: 1) an extraordinary number of antennae are required, 2) high outputs are needed for penetration, 3) pulsation levels will be very high, and 4) 5G will have an impact on the human body’s cellular electrical field. He warns that pulsed radiation used by 5G satellites is biologically active and can produce radiation effects deep within human bodies. The biological effects of 5G microwave radiation are not yet well-studied enough to be fully clear. It is not until the population has been exposed to these for years that we will have more comprehensive data. However, the warnings from scientists and the research so far indicate that it is possible or probable that 5G technology may do much damage to living organisms. We believe Bristol City Council should invoke the precautionary principle and pause the rollout of this as yet untested technology. REFERENCES Neufeld E & Kuster N (2018). • National Childbirth Trust to Reaffirm its Full Commitment to the WHO Code
The WHO Code covers the marketing of all formula milks, bottles and teats (including dummies). It exists to protect all infants, to enable parents to make feeding decisions, free from commercial influence. There should be no product placement to parents and any marketing information or educational materials shared with pregnant women or mothers of infants and young children needs to comply with the code, in particular Articles 4.2 and 4.3 of the Code. This petition is in response to recent social media posts by NCT that show a clear breach of the Code and the CEO's failure to reassure Practitioners that NCT continues to fully adhere to the Code.

  • Keep a full range of hospital services at Homerton University Hospital
ELHCP are drawing up plans in secret for Hackney’s NHS, in line with the Government’s 2019 NHS Long Term Plan. These plans have not been published in full, but we do know they could make deep cuts to NHS services and increase privatisation. Homerton Hospital is likely to be heavily affected by the plans. ELHCP are not consulting us about the plans, but we need them to know that local people do not agree to any reduction of NHS services, or longer journeys. Under ELHCP plans, Homerton Hospital could be re-purposed as a surgical centre, taking patients from a much wider North East London area, and in future might provide only limited ‘core’ acute services. Homerton’s excellent ‘Type 1’ A&E service could be downgraded to provide much more limited ’Type 3’ Emergency services. The plans could mean Hackney residents having to travel to other hospitals across North East London for many services currently provided at Homerton. Meanwhile, Homerton’s pathology lab is set to be downgraded to a ‘spoke’ of a ‘hub’ based at Bart’s Hospital. This means much longer turn-around times, and could severely limit the services Homerton can provide. This threatens the treatment of sickle cell disease, difficult births, bariatric surgery, and brain injuries. Homerton has already seen the building of a new Path Lab stopped; more and more tests moved to other hospitals; and loss of experienced staff, leading to existing staff becoming demoralised and overworked. ELHCP’s plans also involve the relocation of 100 mental health beds out of Hackney to Mile End. ELHCP is an unaccountable body making critical decisions about NHS services across the North East London boroughs of City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge and Havering. These proposals reflect Government policy to impose cuts through reorganisations, with hospital services spread out over a much greater area, meaning much longer distances and travelling times for patients and visitors. NHS bodies have a legal duty to consult the public about any significant proposals for change as part of the development of plans. This should happen before any plans are published or decisions are made. Hackney Keep Our NHS Public (KONPH), is a local campaign group. KONPH is one of around 80 groups across England affiliated to a national KONP campaign against cuts and privatisation of the NHS. KONPH demands that ELHCP keep a full general hospital in Hackney, with an appropriate pathology lab and A&E department, acute psychiatric care, and facilities for care of elderly people.

  • Save Bedford Hospital Hydrotherapy Pool
Hydrotherapy is exercising in warm water. The temperature of the water is 33 – 34 degrees Celsius; swimming pools are usually a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius. The warm water helps people with pain, stiffness and limited mobility to exercise more easily. The pool is currently used by 400 patients a year with a range of musculoskeletal conditions including axial spondyloarthritis (ankylosing spondylitis), hypermobility, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. The closure of the pool left many people’s health seriously deteriorating as no suitable alternative has been offered. There are no other hydrotherapy pools in Bedfordshire.

  • STOP using pesticides in Brighton and Hove !
Many EU countries have banned it's use (recently France in Jan 2019 due to it's link with cancer) and yet we are still using it in Brighton and Hove. Yellow patches of dead grass have been appearing in our parks and playgrounds over the past few weeks and we the city's residents ask that for the sake of our children's health and for the health of the environment that you STOP the use of this poison NOW. Other cities and towns have stopped ...it is time we did the same !

  • Don’t sell off NHS cancer scanning to private companies
A few months ago I needed to attend Churchill Hospital several times for treatment in relation to suspected prostate cancer. The services I received were both speedy and efficient. I received excellent care from both administrative and medical staff. I was horrified to learn that a tendering process had resulted in the sale of the Churchill PET Scanning services to a private company. The Churchill Hospital is a recognised centre of excellence in relation to cancer care and all efforts must be made to preserve the integrity of this precious resource. The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has the power to stop this sale going ahead. This decision needs to be reversed as soon as possible.
