• Protect our children from dirty air in LEEDS
Air pollution is a public health crisis, with illegal and harmful levels of air pollution across the UK. We need national and local government to act to clean up our air and make our towns and cities a healthier place to live for everyone but especially for babies and children. Air pollution affects us all, from when we are in the womb through to old age. It is linked to premature births and can stunt lung growth in children. Air pollution can trigger heart attacks and strokes, worsens asthma attacks and causes lung cancer. Babies, children and older people are more vulnerable to the impacts of air pollution. We need the Council, with the support of national government, to take urgent action to clean up our air to protect the health of children and babies.

  • Stop the closure of Sydenham Green health clinic
We the undersigned object to the closure of the sexual health clinic in Sydenham Green Health Centre We believe this will mean difficulties because of the extra travel distance, increased cost and inconvenience for users of the clinic who are predominantly local and many under 25yrs.Users may have caring responsibilities, a limit on the time they have to attend due to work and family commitments and accessing public transport can be very demanding if not impossible for these users, especially in winter. Lower socio –economic groups will be disadvantaged by these changes as will the groups mentioned below. According to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust the target groups for this service are quote” young people, men who have sex with men, black and minority ethnic groups and the vulnerable within the community. This is an outrageous attack on such groups in our community. Making potential users travel further may deter them from attending altogether. The clinic at Sydenham Green provides free contraceptives for young people. The impact of the closure may be a rise in untreated STI’s and unwanted pregnancies. The closure of Sydenham Green will also have an impact on the sexual health clinics in the other areas expected to take up the shortfall increasing the workload of the Waldron, Hawstead Road and Downham clinics. Waiting times will then increase at these clinics. The increased use of on line testing moves away from the confidentiality essential to users of these services and putting off users is a false economy which will not ultimately save the NHS money. This is primarily a cost saving exercise by the CCG .We ask for adequate budgets and resources and a reversal of this decision. The CCG website states ”We do all we can to ensure that local people get the most accessible services possible”. We do not agree.

  • Autistic & other special needs provision crisis in York
Parents children and adults awaiting an autistic or other special needs assessment are left with little or no support until such assessments are carried out. Even when a diagnosis is made which is very often a battle in itself the support is very often inadequate and many many parents are made to feel at fault by professionals who seem not to listen to the concerns and experiences of parents which sometimes can bring families under the scunity of child social services Parents feel isolated and helpless and most importantly those needing support dont recieve the help they so desperately need.

  • No 'One Size Fits all ' for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Every year Mental Health issues affect the lives of 1 in 4 people in the U.K. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and its resultant mental health issues are a silent killer in the military and especially in men. My son is currently in hospital having been diagnosed with P.T.S.D. Dan's Story:- https://www.gofundme.com/2q5p6z-hadrians-wall-walk?member=557154 More than 6,000 people die by suicide every year in the U.K. Nearly 80% of that 6,000 are men and male suicides are now at their highest since 2001. I ask that the medication programmes provided for P.T.S.D. are supplemented by therapies which routinely include: Acupuncture : https://www.acupuncture.org.uk/public-content/public-pr-press-releases/6374-acupuncture-study-sees-remarkable-success-rate-in-veterans-with-ptsd.html https://www.talktotrinity.com/2016/11/28/can-acupuncture-relieve-symptoms-of-ptsd/ Counselling : https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/trauma-and-ptsd/ E.M.D.R. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing : https://thepsychologist.bps.org.uk/volume-27/edition-7/emdr-more-just-therapy-ptsd E.F.T. Emotional Freedom Self-help Techniques: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2540469/Alternative-tapping-therapy-favoured-Lily-Allen-used-NHS-treat-anxiety-depression.html NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL We are all individual and respond differently to different treatments. If the full range of therapies were to be on offer, to supplement the medication provided, it would give more choice for health professionals working hard to devise treatment programmes and could hasten recovery and cut down on side effects. Would it not be something to consider that when military personnel return from their 'tour of duty' that these alternative therapies are offered as part of their 'normalisation programme'. A joint funded initiative between the N.H.S. and the Ministry of Defence? We can't put a price on good Mental Health. Currently it would seem that we do in some areas. Could this be a false economy long term? Is it not time to put the individual at the centre of their care, as all Social Care Legislation stipulates, and work together to achieve the best possible outcome for the person, their friends and family and maybe for the budget in the long term? Thank you for reading and hopefully signing this petition I truly hope with all my heart that it will help to instigate a change of thinking, save lives, lessen suffering and distress.

  • Save the Forward Centre
The Forward Centre was purpose built 35 years ago as a base for adults with physical disabilities to meet others who faced similar problems and encourage each other to try things they had never thought of doing Many of the activities require specially trained staff to assist people with a wide range of disabilities often caused by accidental injuries or long term illness The Social Work Services are having to make cuts of £100,000 to their annual budget and the only way open to them is buildings or staff. If the staffing levels are reduced the service to the members will suffer so they have decided to demolish a perfectly sound building

  • STOP NUCLEAR WASTE DUMPING IN WALES!!
It's one thing to deny funding towards building the Tidal Bay Lagoon, in Swansea (A green and 100% renewable energy source). Further more, to announce the establishment are funding over 100 MILLION in to nuclear power plants in UK is frankly, below the belt. BUT, to dump the nuclear waste in wales, on the belly's of our shores is audacious, to the point of beyond belief. The British Government, YOUR GOVERNMENT, are planning to dump 300,000 tonnes of toxic waste surrounding Cardiff bay. This waste will the be carried through the strong Severn River currents outwards, towards the natural, beautiful, award winning beaches of the Gower peninsular, Swansea. Towards the Irish east coastal areas. The current will also take the nuclear infected water up stream to the heart of the river, where river banks, vegetation and marine life will also be affected. This NEEDS to be prevented. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOOD FOR THOUGHT: During the the massive media speculation around the re-naming of the Severn bridge, Prince Charles was quoted: "Why weren't the welsh people notified and asked about this" To which he followed - "No wonder they are not happy". Naming a bridge is one thing, This is another level.

  • Force Hospitals to stop blocking access to medicinal cannabis
This is extremely important as children and adults continue to suffer across the UK without help from Hospitals. Children with life threating seizures are battling to stay alive. Instead of Medicinal Cannabis, they are on heavy sedative medications which are killing them and offer no quality of life to the child and quite often simply do not work. People are suffering from chronic pain in conditions such as Terminal Cancer and get little to no relief from traditional pharmaceutical drugs which sedate them and often have extremely bad side effects. People with Multiple Sclerosis find no comfort from traditional pharmaceutical medications and have found Medicinal Cannabis to change their quality of life. And many many other illnesses can be helped by the use of this medication!

  • Marvin Rees: deliver your promise to ban glyphosate in Bristol
In 2016, Marvin Rees promised us action on glyphosate – a toxic weed killer still used in Bristol despite its links to cancer and other health harms for humans and wildlife. Marvin said he would ban glyphosate and carry out a city-wide trial of alternatives. He said he would review the Council’s weed control contracts for housing and streets. The Bristol Labour party said it would “stop using harmful pesticides”. BUT none of this has happened – and incredibly, the Council now insists glyphosate is a “safe product” after angry parents reported the spraying of glyphosate outside a nursery school, just as the children arrived. It also told local media “there are no current plans to use alternative methods”. Meanwhile, the evidence linking glyphosate to cancer is growing. In a recent landmark case in California, chemical giant Monsanto has been found liable for a terminally ill man’s cancer, caused by a herbicide containing glyphosate, known as Roundup. Why the U-turn, Marvin? Bristol’s people, pets and wildlife deserve better. There are reports of glyphosate being sprayed with no warning near to school children, and of cats and dogs poisoned by licking treated weeds. To show our Mayor that Bristol citizens mean business when it comes to a toxic-free city, please sign this petition. Other local authorities including Edinburgh, North Somerset, Lewes and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham are starting to ditch glyphosate, why not Bristol?

  • The Government must provide emergency funding to foodbanks
It is well reported that foodbank use in the UK has seen an unprecedented rise in use. They rely solely on public donations to feed people. Because it is government policy that has caused this rise, they must intervene now. Foodbanks are running out daily and face the awful task of turning people away. Health and wellbeing is at severe risk. These charities are doing the government's work free of charge. This must change.
