• That's Not Me
Low self-esteem, poor body image, anxiety and depression are increasingly rapidly in young women. Powerful advertisers and retailers would have the women of tomorrow believe that to be beautiful, acceptable and successful you must be the epitome of thin; measuring a size 4 or less. Whilst retail chains aimed at older women are starting to use mannequins that represent normal, wonderful women, retailers aimed at the 14-24 group still have below size 4 mannequins in their window. Their message is that unrealistically thin, unhealthily thin is beautiful. Girls come in a myriad of sizes, they need to be represented and celebrated not ostracised from main stream fashion. Beautiful bodies deserve beautiful clothes whether skinny or curvy. Our daughters deserve more. Statistics show that, "The 2017 version of Miss Average [woman] is 5ft 5in, weighs 11st, wears a dress size 16 and has a shoe size of 6." Retailers have a responsibility to support positive and diverse body image in young women, not to perpetuate the cycle of self-loathing. All girls are beautiful; retailers step up and make a change for positive body image for life.

  • Add animal repellent to antifreeze and coolant
I have lost two cats to antifreeze poisoning in a space of three months. The violent reaction they both had to the chemical was horrific. Both lost their vision and went into shock causing them to suffer aggressive seizures. Antifreeze causes blindness. Within minutes all vital organs begin to shut down. This causes the most unimaginable suffering. The only humane option is to euthanise should an animal ingest antifreeze/coolant. Please petition the relevant bodies so this needless suffering can be averted.

  • Let Children Be Children and Allow Them to Play Out on their Street!!
Children need to play outside! They need to be allowed to be children! In a day and age where computer games and a sedentary lifestyle are the norm, and obesity rates are rising, it is ridiculous for the RMG to try and implement this rule. On a 'family' estate, where lots of children live, it is completely unreasonable to ask that children don't play out together, and enjoy the area that they live in. These are good kids. They are not doing any harm, or being naughty or disrespectful. They are simply being children and having fun. Whilst children should be appropriately supervised and stick to rules and safety measures, they shouldn't be couped up like prisoners. The world is full of enough zombies who stare at screens all day and night and I used to love playing out on our road as a kid. Some of my happiest memories were made that way. If you agree with even a small part of this, please sign the petition before this country becomes even more ridiculous! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/environment/2016/mar/25/three-quarters-of-uk-children-spend-less-time-outdoors-than-prison-inmates-survey

  • Reduce risk for cyclists at Murdishaw A533 roundabout.
I have personally been knocked off my bike on this roundabout. I feel lucky to be alive. The police could not find the person who did this and the council say they are not willing to put any control measures in place. (because the layout is due to change in 2 years) More recently a good friend got knocked off her bike at the same location. We have since found out several other cyclists have fell victim to hit and run drivers at this same spot. Soon enough a life will be taken. I feel my suggested control measures are easily done. Personally I would like cameras to be added and speed bumps however I want to be realistic. Halton try to promote cycling which is really good for our environment however I feel in this case they have not done enough to put some preventative measures in place.

  • Keep this man near his friends and family
Richard had a riding accident which left him in a wheelchair with spinal injuries 4 and a half years ago. He has to leave his BCC tenancy farm where he has lived for 46 years as his father has died and he was not allowed to take over the tenancy. He has unpredictable weakness in all limbs and needs 3 people to do any physio safely. He was only given 1 hour of physio every 4 weeks by the NHS and needed amulance transport to get to SMH for it so it was cancelled after a few weeks as he was too tired by the time he got there for it to be worthwile. So his friends and family who all live in North Marston or within 5 miles have set up a rota and each evening we get him out of his chair and walk a few steps and do physio on his hands which are like claws if physio is missed for a few days. Richard has suffered from sever depression since the accident and this bit of respite and regular visits has given him a new lease of life. He is in an electric wheelchair so cannot use public transport. His two small sons also live within North Marston and he loves to go in is wheelchair to school and see them... all this will be denied if he gets moved out o the vilage. He has a live in carer due to his dependency and cannot move himself or take care of any basic needs without her help. There is a VAHT property in North Marston tht has been empty for 9 months. It needs some adaptions but as I understand it grants are available It doesn't currently have a wet room but nor does his current property as he was refused a grant to adapt it by BCC.

  • Save Cemetery Road Allotments, Huddersfield
Academic research makes clear the social, mental and physical well-being benefits provided by community green spaces. In addition the Public Health Agency has identified numerous benefits of allotments to the community, including the promotion of good mental health, physical activity and nutrition, as well as the encouragement of social interaction. Our plot holders come from many different cultural backgrounds and some have been on the same plots for 35 years and feel that they are too old to start afresh. for more information: www.facebook.com/cemeteryroadallotments
