The Palace of Westminster is no longer fit for purpose and homelessness among English households has risen by over 50% since 2010, with 57,750 formally recognised cases in the financial year 2015-16. In London alone, households becoming homeless increased to 17,530 (9%) in the last year. According to homelessness charity Shelter, more than a million households living in private rented accommodation are at risk of becoming homeless by 2020 because of rising rents, benefit freezes and a lack of social housing. The Grenfell Tower disaster, the highly questionable mass sale to private property developers of land and buildings previously used for social housing, along with the continuing unacceptable rise in homelessness and ever increasing inequality of wealth and opportunity all point to the urgent need for radical solutions to the housing crisis, especially in London. Even multi millionaire Conservatives such as Jacob Rees Mogg recognise housing as the single most important issue facing the people of Britain in 2017. The Government have recently been considering the refurbishment of the Palace of Westminster at a reported cost of an eye watering £5billion of taxpayers' money. Instead of using this enormous amount of money patching up an antiquated building that is no longer fit for purpose, the Government should instead use the vast majority of this money to provide decent, affordable social housing for the most vulnerable and marginalised, and simultaneously move the UK Parliament to a northern city in order to help construct a more equal society: London and the south-east are wealthy but most regions are poorer than the European Union average. Growing inequality and the absence of decent affordable housing is unacceptable in what the Government claims is the fifth largest economy in the world.

This is important as individuals and especially non drivers in the area have very little means of transportation, thus having a major impact on the freedom of choice and human rights of the general public. This has a major effect on the peoples mental health due to having little or no options and being stranded in one location where especially on weekends there are very few ways of catching connecting trains, as this is an area that does not serve the majority of railway stations in the sourrounding counties.

We feel that our families are being unfairly penalised. The children that live here have a communal garden and one of the activities that is enjoyed by ALL the children young and old is the use of paddling pools. The capping of the external taps means we are unable to water our garden plants, unable to provide water for the dogs that use the garden and we are unable to allow the children to cool off in the hot weather. This is important as we are paying communal water charges but have no access to communal water. We were not consulted or given fair warning of the taps being capped. We have been repeatedly ignored by our landlord. We as a community have been told we are not allowed to use paddling pools or have water fights in our communal garden and feel this is unacceptable. This petition is a way for all tenants in rented properties to show how important it is for landlords to listen to residents on issues that impact their lives.

Perth and Kinross is lucky to have a thriving population of red squirrels which bring great joy to many people. Unfortunately, many red squirrels are killed by speeding vehicles, especially on country roads. The Council needs to be proactive in protecting this native species. Erecting red squirrel road signs and reducing the speed limit on country roads is a good start.
