• Shuffle Hunt
Jeremy Hunt is a divisive Health Secretary who has presided over a period of unprecedented unrest within the NHS. He has alienated doctors over their contract reforms, and threatens the future of the nursing profession through the removal of key financial supports for nursing students. Theresa May, as the new Prime Minister, has an opportunity to build bridges with doctors, nurses, and the wider NHS. A new Health Secretary is the right starting point to restoring the NHS' trust in the government.

  • Petition for a snap election following the appointment of Theresa May as PM
As the head of our government, she is the lead representive of the British and Northern Irish citizens. However, having won by default, her views do not represent a large number of UK citizens, such as those who support the following: The ban against fox hunting & badger culling The EU Convention on Human Rights The necessity for public bodies to work to address social and economic inequality Free university education The abolishment of the Bedroom Tax Support for LGBT community to be able to adopt Those against the deportation of EU citizens and those from across the world As part of the democratic process, the UK public should be given the opportunity to have a say on who their Prime Minister is, by voting in a General Election.

  • Fight the Thames Garden Bridge vanity project
Please help to save the public space on the South Bank. The controversial Garden Bridge is not needed here. Public money will be wasted for a project the campaign for which was never properly and openly conducted by the previous mayor. This will cost at least 60 million pounds in public money (cost estimates are rising all the time) and will ruin the currently beautiful views from Hungerford Bridge at Embankment towards St Paul's Cathedral. At least 30 beautiful mature trees along the South Bank Thames walkway will be cut down, and the present lovely long walkway, with its existing green open space, will be reduced.

  • Protect Welfare For Disabled People
The current 'austerity' policies are hurting only the poorest & most vulnerable people, whilst the wealthy have only gotten wealthier. This has led to the country being more divided than ever in recent years. The 'Brexit' vote is a prime example of this; where the disenfranchised voiced their feelings & now we need our Government to heal these wounds & bring us together, rather than promote further division. Disabled people are suffering particularly as a result of the cut-backs in public spending & we feel victimised. We have a right to try to lead as normal a life as possible & cutting benefits in what is one of the wealthiest nations on Earth is both unjustified & shameful. Many disabled people are genuinely frightened of where these policies might lead & what our future lives may be like. We've seen other people who claim benefits being used as a scapegoat in the media & we worry, 'are we next?'. We want assurances that this will not happen & that we will remain both valid & valued citizens. We hope & pray that these promises to halt these divisive & harmful policies are kept & that our worries are alleviated.

  • Move Parliament North- reunite our divided nation
What has become clear from the Brexit campaign, is the bleakness of the divide between London and the rest of the country. Currently London holds every source of wealth and power in the country, as well as the natural advantages of position and climate. Seriously addressing the north/south divide requires more than moving the odd back office function - only a radical move of this magnitude stands any chance of acting as a catalyst to shift power away from the massively dominant south-eastern corner of the UK; regenerating and re-enfranchising the North. From a practical point of view, at a time when the existing parliament buildings are becoming extortionately expensive to maintain, renovating existing buildings in a northern city would be relatively affordable; MPs expense claims would be reduced and MPs would more readily grasp the reality of life outside the London bubble. Time honoured traditions could be maintained, but with a fresh impetus and relevance for people outside the capital. I am a Londoner, I love London and have no wish to live anywhere else; but I understand London has enough going for it to flourish without parliament - in fact, could well benefit from losing it. There is no question for me that the country as a whole would benefit from the move.

  • Universal screening for thyroid disorders before and during pregnancy
Had I been screened for thyroid disorder before or during pregnancy, my son would not be borderline hypothyroid now. We found out by chance that his TSH and T4 levels were out of range! I was put at serious risk of losing my baby or him being born with a birth defects and many have already lost their babies for an un-diagnosed thyroid disorder. I believe that had I been screened for thyroid disorder before or during pregnancy, my son would not be borderline hypothyroid now. We only found out about me being hypothyroid by chance, as I was breastfeeding him and his TSH and T4 levels were out of range because of me, through my breast milk! I was put at serious risk of losing my baby or him being born with even more serious birth defects and so many women have already lost their babies for no apparent reason other than a possible un-diagnosed thyroid disorder. If women were screened in preparation of pregnancy, many unexplained miscarriages, birth defects or lifelong developmental conditions could be maybe avoided or at least contained and controlled, all thanks to one extra blood test screening comparing to what is the current offering under the NHS services for pregnant women. Please make this become possible, as women are then the ones left with the burden to deal with the guilt, the pain and the sorrow of remembering their rainbow babies! Thank you for signing this petition and for pushing it as far up as possible.

  • Defer the debate on Trident
MOD costings for renewal of Trident are still based on 2007 estimates, and are said to be between £15 and £20 billion. We are now entering a period of at least two years when the value of the pound and our country's credit rating will be at best uncertain, and possibly lead to recession. Whatever happens once we have left the EU, for the next two years there will be less money to spend on the NHS, schools, care for the elderly and disadvantaged, not more, and it makes no sense to committ such a proportion of our dwindling resources to this project. Let us at least wait until we have more idea of what our relations with the EU and the rest of the world will look like, and how our economy is faring, before the debate is held.

  • Make a Decision on the Sottish Beaver Trial result!
The report was presented by SNH in June 2015 and as yet no decision has been made. In that time there has been a Scottish Parliamentary election which has seen a change in the minister in charge. There have also been shootings of beaver on the Tay river system that have been uncontrolled and unauthorised which has seen pregnant females being killed, as confirmed by RZSS vets. The Scottish Government response to these actions was effectively a request not to carry on with this activity. Given that there is much evidence to suggest that beaver activity can not only have immediate ecological benefits to the area around beaver ponds but also to population and health of fish such as trout and salmon and help by way of flood prevention down stream, an overall decision would seem a good long term strategy for all concerned!

  • Keep Ofsted About Supporting Children's Care and Education!
I'm concerned about the candidate Amanda Speilmans experience and business interests in Academies and Qualifications is not wide enough to support, care or protect all the different aspects of Ofsteds remit. The Education Select Comittee had this to say amongst other concerns : "While Ms Spielman, through her work at ARK and Ofqual, has gained experience of secondary education, she did not convince us that she had a clear understanding of the other aspects of this complex role, such as: early years; primary education; children’s services; child protection; looked-after children; special educational needs; further education; and the educational support role for which local authorities are inspected. We did not leave the session feeling that she was prepared for the vast scope and complexity of this important role. Notwithstanding our views on the candidate, we have been concerned for some time about the lack of expertise on children’s services amongst Ofsted’s senior management, particularly as Ofsted does not currently have a permanent director of children’s social care. Ofsted’s social care work is currently overshadowed by that on education. In context of recent high profile failures in children’s services over recent years, it deserves a higher profile and is an issue on which strong leadership from Ofsted is needed." These are important recommendations and should not be discounted!!!

  • Basic Income , Less Bureaucracy More Social Justice.
This needs to be done, would be simple to implement and would have many positive advantages over our current system of grudgingly given welfare benefits many of which are not claimed due to stigmatisation issues and lack of awareness. The advantages include: A basic citizen's income would be a hand up, a platform to launch your career from , to potentially do well and contribute to improving the quality of society through income tax. There may well be a backlash one day as the gap between rich and poor continues to increase, this idea would avoid social unrest, possible revolution and bloodshed. Vast swathes of DWP expense could be abolished except for special circumstances where people because of disability need a small citizen's income supplement to support their extra basic living costs. The economy would be stimulated by the extra demand and productivity created by the poorest in society having slightly more money to spend and invest in small enterprises. The 'feel good factor' would be promoted by a basic income as a right for all. People would have financial stability and be able to plan and make effective decisions for their futures, unclouded by fear and worry. Reduced/abolished poverty through a basic income would lead to reduction in homelessness, begging and crime and its related costs to the police and justice system. The dignity of every citizen would be be restored, the motive for petty crime removed. Greatly reduced levels of clinical depression, alcoholism and stress related health issues with a commensurate saving to our NHS. The onus would no longer be on the poor to prove they are not benefits cheats but the focus will be moved to the rich to prove they are not avoiding taxation and cheating their fellow citizens. The era of stigmatisation of the poor and turning a blind eye to the far bigger crimes of the rich will come to an end. The need for charities where those at top of an organisation make an excellent living off the back of volunteers would also greatly be reduced. People generally don't want to receive charity and feel patronised by and obligated to some individual or organisation. A basic income as a citizen's right would help to negate the reason for charity organisations in all but the most extreme cases and causes. The current system of working tax credits and universal credit is a system that subsidises the meanest paying employers not the poverty struck employees. A basic income would force employers to pay fairer wages for unattractive and unpleasant jobs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zNEG5FXv8I

  • Save Silverdale library
Lancashire council are currently weighing up plans to close 37 libraries. The plans have been called "unnecessary" and "shameful". But there's still a chance to save our libraries. The council have said that “They are proposals not done deals. I think we’ve proved we listen to people.” So a big petition right now could be enough to save them from the cuts. Libraries are more than just a building with books in, they are the heart of our community and much needed as social network!
