• Stop the Arms Fair in Newham
This September at ExCeL, International arms companies will meet up with military delegations from around the globe to show off the latest war technology. They are selling everything from bombs, drones, guns, warplanes, tanks, grenades as well as riot and restraint equipment. These weapons are sold at great profit to countries in conflict, authoritarian regimes and countries carrying out serious and well documented human rights offences. Many of these weapons will be used against civilians in non combat areas. DSEI (Defence and Security Equipment International) is one of the world’s biggest Arms Fairs. It is held every two years, at great expense to the UK taxpayer. It is opposed by people in the area and across the country, including opposition from the Mayor of Newham, the Mayor of London and local MP Lyn Brown.

  • Replace McDonald's plastic toys with seeds and bee bombs for children to grow
McDonald's sells over 1 Billion happy meals every year around the world. Included in these are hard plastic toys inside plastic packaging, millions going to landfill every year, especially in the western world. We need to educate our children that this fast, throw away attitude is killing the planet. Teach our children to love, nurture and grow. A packet of seeds and a biodegradable box that doubles as a tray - it's an easy solution to make the Happy Meal truly Happy for all! The environment wins. Bees win. Children's metal health is improved and planting seeds also encourages curiosity for their environment - huge win! Come on McDonalds - make this happen!

  • National Childbirth Trust to Reaffirm its Full Commitment to the WHO Code
The WHO Code covers the marketing of all formula milks, bottles and teats (including dummies). It exists to protect all infants, to enable parents to make feeding decisions, free from commercial influence. There should be no product placement to parents and any marketing information or educational materials shared with pregnant women or mothers of infants and young children needs to comply with the code, in particular Articles 4.2 and 4.3 of the Code. This petition is in response to recent social media posts by NCT that show a clear breach of the Code and the CEO's failure to reassure Practitioners that NCT continues to fully adhere to the Code.

  • Declare a Climate Emergency - Orkney
Humans have already caused irreversible climate change and ecological devastation. The impacts of which are being felt around the world. Global temperatures have already increased by 1.1 degree Celsius from pre-industrial levels. Atmospheric CO2 levels are above 400 parts per million (ppm). This far exceeds the 350ppm deemed to be a safe level for humanity and all the other species that we co-exist with and depend on; In order to reduce the chance of runaway global warming and limit the effects of climate breakdown, and ecocide, it is imperative that we as a species reduce our CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) emissions from their current 6.5 tonnes per person per year to 1 tonne as soon as possible, and live within the resource means of our planet.; Councils around the world are responding by declaring a ‘Climate Emergency’ and committing resources to address this emergency and Orkney is in a unique position to contribute to cutting emissions through its leading role in developing renewable energy. The full text of a motion that we will ask the Council to pass will be published on the Extinction Rebellion Facebook page.

  • Say no to Circus Mondao in the Valleys
Forcing animals to perform in circuses is unethical, outdated and wrong. According to the RSPCA who have fought hard for many years to get the use of wild animals in circuses banned, 97% of the public support the incoming ban. This shows that people do not want circuses that feature animals to be able to perform. As well as wrongly using animals, the staff from this circus have also been known to leave abusive/misogynist comments on animal rights campaigners posts, leaving animal faeces in spots where campaigners stand and are also renowned for littering.

  • Help us save two historic buildings in Newton Le Willows
The restoration works will save the manor house, which was built in 1774, and barn which dates back to the 1600s and will deliver a further 10 apartments. The listed buildings have lain empty for decades and have fallen into an advanced state of disrepair, and this is the last opportunity to save the buildings, which are described by Historic England as being “not only of local significance but of national importance.” It will also provide much needed family homes for the local area.

  • Schools Should Not Be Used As Polling Stations
Lewes District Council have yet again taken the decision to use Cradle Hill CP School as a polling station and therefore the school will be closed, not just on the 2nd May but also on the 23rd May, equating to 13 hours of missed education, in a term that already has two bank holidays. Our children’s education is extremely important. Something that East Sussex County Council like to remind us with their Get a Grip Campaign and the fines they impose on parents and carers for taking their children out of school. 13 hours of “forced” missed education in one year is not acceptable, the knock-on effect is huge, especially with SATs coming up, children with special needs loosing precious time, those who rely on school dinners each day as their only hot meal and the extra financial burden to parents and carers. There are plenty of community buildings in the ward that could be utilised for this purpose ie Seaford Community Church and Seaford Children’s Centre. Let’s get this decision over ruled.

  • Keep a full range of hospital services at Homerton University Hospital
ELHCP are drawing up plans in secret for Hackney’s NHS, in line with the Government’s 2019 NHS Long Term Plan. These plans have not been published in full, but we do know they could make deep cuts to NHS services and increase privatisation. Homerton Hospital is likely to be heavily affected by the plans. ELHCP are not consulting us about the plans, but we need them to know that local people do not agree to any reduction of NHS services, or longer journeys. Under ELHCP plans, Homerton Hospital could be re-purposed as a surgical centre, taking patients from a much wider North East London area, and in future might provide only limited ‘core’ acute services. Homerton’s excellent ‘Type 1’ A&E service could be downgraded to provide much more limited ’Type 3’ Emergency services. The plans could mean Hackney residents having to travel to other hospitals across North East London for many services currently provided at Homerton. Meanwhile, Homerton’s pathology lab is set to be downgraded to a ‘spoke’ of a ‘hub’ based at Bart’s Hospital. This means much longer turn-around times, and could severely limit the services Homerton can provide. This threatens the treatment of sickle cell disease, difficult births, bariatric surgery, and brain injuries. Homerton has already seen the building of a new Path Lab stopped; more and more tests moved to other hospitals; and loss of experienced staff, leading to existing staff becoming demoralised and overworked. ELHCP’s plans also involve the relocation of 100 mental health beds out of Hackney to Mile End. ELHCP is an unaccountable body making critical decisions about NHS services across the North East London boroughs of City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge and Havering. These proposals reflect Government policy to impose cuts through reorganisations, with hospital services spread out over a much greater area, meaning much longer distances and travelling times for patients and visitors. NHS bodies have a legal duty to consult the public about any significant proposals for change as part of the development of plans. This should happen before any plans are published or decisions are made. Hackney Keep Our NHS Public (KONPH), is a local campaign group. KONPH is one of around 80 groups across England affiliated to a national KONP campaign against cuts and privatisation of the NHS. KONPH demands that ELHCP keep a full general hospital in Hackney, with an appropriate pathology lab and A&E department, acute psychiatric care, and facilities for care of elderly people.

  • Bring back the 6.15pm 98 bus in Colchester Town.
The representative for First Bus said the bus is being cancelled due to lack of patronage. This is a false statement as I take this bus every day and it is always busy and not just with concessions. Anyone like me, who has no alternative route, will have to wait until 8.10pm to get a bus home. They have not stated clearly anywhere on social media that these changes are happening. I've been telling people MYSELF on the bus each night and they have been shocked and distressed to find out they won't get home till 9pm. They are still running the 98 out of Clacton at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm but not from Colchester. Why? It is not a lack of demand. They have tried to slip these changes through quietly and left their customers desperate for information and no care shown that when the 28th comes round and we literally won't be able to get home... unless we wait 3 HOURS!! They say its tweaking a service to increase punctuality, a 3 hour wait is not punctual, it's outrageous! This cannot be allowed to remain in place. It's not a service it's an utter disgrace.
