The no detriment policy has been implemented because of the pandemic and yet it will not apply to this assignment, despite the fact that we are studying a third year module in our second year and trying to learn through an online platform. The TLAN sessions include a lot less time than we would have had in 'normal circumstances.' They lack structure and do not provide enough support to fully understand the units and therefore the content required for the assignment. By setting the deadline for the assignment a day after the policy ends, UWE is not supporting it's students to attain the highest grade they are capable of achieving, ironic for a module about teaching and learning. Sign this petition if you feel that the grade for this assignment should not be counted towards your final degree, which can only happen by changing the deadline so it is within the no detriment policy.

The word 'potential' creates the idea of expectation, and a feeling of failiure, as this expectation is an unreachable goal. No teacher ever writes 'fullfilled potential'. This is very damaging for many children, as it contributes to the very common belief of 'not being good enough', that so prominently found in adulthood. Help us get rid of this toxic word once and for all. For the children.

This is important as children develop , learn and internalise reading and sets of values from books they study at these ages. Following the outrageous killing of George Ffoyd in the US , institutional and personal racism has been shown in the light to be the dangerous and destructive hatred that it is. Education is the way many hearts and minds can be nurtured and made aware of these dangers and that justice comes must always prevail before peace - a pint t among others that this great text clearly demonstrates

How a child looks is important to them, especially during the teenage years. Some children are already very distressed by the new uniform they are expected to wear and this may negatively impact on their self image and mental health. It will make them stand out when outside of school in the surrounding town, in a way that the current uniform does not.

The delays in decision making mean that teachers are in the dark about how best to proceed with the new exam course.

As the university has asserted that study spaces and libraries will remain open for the 2020/21 academic years, while "implementing social distancing measures" with "one-way systems, queues and distance markers", there will likely be restrictions on entry numbers to these facilities. Lots of students cannot effectively work from their university accommodation and houses, so restricted accessibility will disadvantage many who typically study elsewhere. The purpose of this petition, therefore, is to ensure that adequate study spaces are available to students while existing university facilities are restricted. The university can provide this by utilising university buildings and sports facilities, and/or through outsourcing.

It is important to the wellbeing of all of us that we still have time to ourselves, time to exercise and spend time with our families. this is currently impossible and education should never be put above mental health.

Whilst students are still in receipt of their maintenance loans and have received their summer payment many students have to top up the accommodation charges and rely on either parents or a part time job to make the payments. Under lock down conditions students are finding it difficult to work and many parents will be covering costs of their children living at home whilst also facing economic hardship. The Competition & Marketing Authority says they would expect refunds “for a consumer cancels or is prevented from receiving the service, due to the restrictions that apply during the current lockdown“. Even without financial hardship this suggest that charging under these current circumstances is wrong

The situation surrounding Covid-19 has impacted the students of BCoT college considerably. Although we are receiving support from our tutors online where they can provide this, we are unable to use the facilities at the college in order to realise our projects to the best of our abilities (specifically final year’s Major Projects) as well as use physical learning facilities from the library. Many of our projects are unable to reach realisation as we are unable to access the facilities necessary and collaborate with others due the current social restrictions enforced by the UK government. Each individual student has a different circumstance whilst at home. Whether it’s not having the money or space to use alternative methods for their projects or having to look after their own children or vulnerable family members during this pandemic. We have been told by tutors to do as much as we possibly can based on our circumstances and they will be lenient when grading. But how can we possibly put a project before the needs of our family members or our own mental wellbeing, when many of us are scared to lose loved ones due to this virus? Third year students have been working tirelessly towards showcasing their skills in their Major Projects for three years. Whatever we are able to create during this pandemic, will not be a true reflection of our abilities due to our personal circumstances, whatever they might be (mental health, finances, looking after family etc). On the 25th March 2020, The University of Exeter announced a ‘safety net’ policy: "Our commitment to your success given the exceptional circumstances in which you are sitting these examinations and other assessments, we have decided to introduce a ‘safety net’ policy.” "This ‘no-detriment’ approach is as follows: so long as you would qualify to progress/graduate based on your marks obtained this year (including those in the summer assessment period), then we will ensure that your final academic year average is the same as, or higher than, the average you have attained up to Sunday 15th March. Details about how your average to 15th March will be calculated will be provided in the FAQs on our website by the end of Friday 27th March. If you achieve higher marks in assessments submitted and examinations undertaken after Sunday 15th March then you will be able to raise your mark for the year. To repeat, as long as you qualify to pass the year, completing the summer assessments can only help not hinder you because we will not let the extraordinary circumstances in which you are completing these assessments leave you with a mark below your current overall mark." Exams being cancelled is heartbreaking for pupils who are now very worried about if they will get fair grades. We have got to do everything to avoid the same scenario in 2021.

Children are our future. If they miss the basics in Primary school they will be unable to do well in further education and jobs. It is vital that they get extra help which is not possible in normal size classes. There are not enough special help teachers. Some children will need one on one help,others will cope in small groups but large classes cannot meet all the needs
