• Change the laws of next of kin status
Until it happened to me I didn't realize after 28 years together the last 12 as my partners full time carer in that 12 years my partners family had no contact with us her mother then took legal advice to prove I wasn't legal next of kin. People who had not even asked how she was or did we need any help for 12 years were her next of kin I had to fight for a portion of her ashes too from my hospital bed where I Was seriously ill with a life threatening illness. As the law currently stands you have to be married or civil partners neither of which we could do because my partner had severe mental health issues, social anxiety syndrome and agoraphobia. I know for a fact a lot of people are in the very same position I am even if you are classed as next of kin on their medical records it means nothing if they die. Also if you split from your husband/wife and do not divorce they are still legally your next of kin and can demand all your possessions even if they were bought by someone else. Also you can end up homeless if the property is in the deceased persons name. Please sign and share this because you never know what is around the corner

  • Stop Landlords Profiting from the £9Bn Housing Benefit Crisis
Like many of us, I watched the recent airing of a BBC programme "The Week the Landlords Moved In" and felt a combination of sadness (for the tenants) and anger that Private Landlords - not all of them unscrupulous - profit fantastically from the Housing Benefits system. This is, after all, yours and my tax-payers' money that's being handed over, so let's make sure it's being put to better use and delivering value for money for all of us. It cannot be right that our hard-earned taxes are enriching that select few through the housing benefit system. If there are any financial surpluses created through these payments, then surely they should be channelled back into creating more Social Housing for those that need it.

  • Use money earmarked for refurbishing the Palace of Westminster for social housing.
This is the twenty first century and Britain is one of the richest yet most unequal places on earth. The Palace of Westminster is no longer fit for purpose and homelessness among English households has risen by over 50% since 2010, with 57,750 formally recognised cases in the financial year 2015-16. In London alone, households becoming homeless increased to 17,530 (9%) in the last year. According to homelessness charity Shelter, more than a million households living in private rented accommodation are at risk of becoming homeless by 2020 because of rising rents, benefit freezes and a lack of social housing. The Grenfell Tower disaster, the highly questionable mass sale to private property developers of land and buildings previously used for social housing, along with the continuing unacceptable rise in homelessness and ever increasing inequality of wealth and opportunity all point to the urgent need for radical solutions to the housing crisis, especially in London. Even multi millionaire Conservatives such as Jacob Rees Mogg recognise housing as the single most important issue facing the people of Britain in 2017. The Government have recently been considering the refurbishment of the Palace of Westminster at a reported cost of an eye watering £5billion of taxpayers' money. Instead of using this enormous amount of money patching up an antiquated building that is no longer fit for purpose, the Government should instead use the vast majority of this money to provide decent, affordable social housing for the most vulnerable and marginalised, and simultaneously move the UK Parliament to a northern city in order to help construct a more equal society: London and the south-east are wealthy but most regions are poorer than the European Union average. Growing inequality and the absence of decent affordable housing is unacceptable in what the Government claims is the fifth largest economy in the world.

  • Affinity Sutton's Water Cap
We feel that our families are being unfairly penalised. The children that live here have a communal garden and one of the activities that is enjoyed by ALL the children young and old is the use of paddling pools. The capping of the external taps means we are unable to water our garden plants, unable to provide water for the dogs that use the garden and we are unable to allow the children to cool off in the hot weather. This is important as we are paying communal water charges but have no access to communal water. We were not consulted or given fair warning of the taps being capped. We have been repeatedly ignored by our landlord. We as a community have been told we are not allowed to use paddling pools or have water fights in our communal garden and feel this is unacceptable. This petition is a way for all tenants in rented properties to show how important it is for landlords to listen to residents on issues that impact their lives.

  • NCAP style fire safety notices to be installed on buildings
Cars already display their safety features so why don't buildings. Food outlets display their hygiene rating so why not fire safety rating People should know before they enter a building the level of risk they take in event of a fire. Building owners would also then be under immeadiate pressure to ensure they achieve and maintain at least minimum standards. This could help prevent another Grenfell Tower Tragedy

  • Family of eight evicted to Birmingham
The cuts on benefits full stop has hurt families but for large families it has been devastating! This family has been torn apart! Not only have the parents split up but now social services and all other involved departments are insisting they should be sent to Bristol!!! There are properties available just that the price is too much!

  • Respirators in high rise flats
After the Tragedy at Grenfell Tower and the unknown amount of people who died from smoke inhalation, this could be an effective low cost fast way to give people a chance of getting through the deadly smoke. We should all understand that the government will not fit sprinkler systems within flats similar to Grenfell but this would be a start to give people a chance of getting out of the building alive if such events occur.

  • Honour your promise to the surviving families of the Grenfell Towers tragedy.
Upon learning that families who decline to move away from their community & their lives will be declared - "intentionally homeless!" For the families this now means - withdrawal of promised support; loss of housing rights position; & most shockingly - potential loss of custody of their children!!! This is no way to treat British citizens, so I implore anyone who reads this petition, to sign it & send it across their networks, in order to help the traumatised families. Lets make sure that the lessons of past tragedies aren't repeated here; not now, not ever!!! Thank you.
