England's healthcare regulator has told BBC News that maternity units currently have the poorest safety ratings of any hospital service it inspects. BBC analysis of Care Quality Commission (CQC) records showed it deemed two-thirds (67%) of them not to be safe enough, up from 55% last autumn. The "deterioration" follows efforts to improve NHS maternity care, and is blamed partly on a midwife shortage. The government said maternity care was of the "utmost importance". The Department for Heath and Social Care (DHSC) said £165m a year was being invested in boosting the maternity workforce, but said "we know there is more to do". The BBC's analysis also revealed the proportion of maternity units with the poorest safety ranking of "inadequate" - meaning that there is a high risk of avoidable harm to mother or baby - has more than doubled from 7% to 15% since September 2022. This is not an isolated incident; it underscores a critical gap in our healthcare system - the lack of training for midwives, doctors, and nursery nurses in managing pregnancies complicated by type 1 diabetes. According to Diabetes UK (2019), approximately 700 women with type 1 or type 2 diabetes experience serious health complications during pregnancy each year that could be prevented with better care. We need urgent action to ensure that all healthcare professionals involved in prenatal and postnatal care are adequately trained in managing pregnancies affected by type 1 diabetes. This includes understanding how to interpret blood glucose monitoring devices accurately and how to respond effectively when these devices give incorrect readings. We cannot afford more near-miss stories like my daughter's or worse still - tragic outcomes due to inadequate training. We urge health authorities across the country to prioritize this issue immediately.

Politicians need to stop delaying tactics and finger pointing and pay these people now. The Gov is responsible for the post office and the post office is at fault. The Fujitsu software is still being used, despite the heartache it has caused to ordinary, innocent people. They should be made accountable. It’s an outrage and increased compensation payments should be made immediately. Families have been torn apart, some of those innocents have died in shame, some have taken their own lives. Money alone is not everything but it surely helps. This needs to end now.

To stop another scandal happening like the one now

A law such as this would promote a more transparent, fair and safer society in all in all areas of public and private life and not just the postal service. Less miscarriages of justice and fewer bent coppers. Just put your hands up when it happens and face errors can be addressed sooner for the public benefit.

Nevill estate has over 700 homes, and a larger than average proportion of older people. Almost all residents have to use one of four steep roads to and from their home. These are treacherous in icy weather. Every snowy spell sees cars sliding into each other, roads blocked with accidents and people slipping over and being hurt. The bus can’t use its ungritted route, so people are trapped at home. Equally, essential services can’t reach homes.

James Cleverly’s appalling behaviour does not represent or protect us. It could easily embolden perpetrators to commit drugging and abuse crimes against women and men and the LGBTQ+ community. He should face the consequences of his terrible decision to think that it is a joking matter.

The firm at the heart of the Post Office scandal continues to be handed numerous government contracts paid for by millions of taxpayers money despite its role in the Post Office Horizon Scandal. It’s even been named a “key strategic supplier”. No one at Fujitsu has been held accountable, even after it was confirmed the accounting errors were caused by the computer system. In fact, Fujitsu has continued to win government jobs worth millions, as recently as last month, despite calls for the firm to be frozen out of any new contracts. They were even awarded a £36 million contract extension to keep running their Horizon Post Office contract until 2025. Enough is enough, MP’s from all sides are now saying Fujitsu should not be handed any more Government contracts after the Horizon Scandal. Let’s show the public agrees.

Our safety as pedestrians are important and the risk of accidents needs to be prevented

Denmark Hill is the 39th most-visited out of the UK's 2,579 train stations. It serves two major hospitals, the new Salvation Army headquarters and is one of only two stations serving the 11,000 people who live in the Camberwell area. It's also a travel hub for people living in Herne Hill and East Dulwich. It has no signage on its busiest side. If visitors are unfamiliar with the station (as many hospital visitors are), it's impossible to find by sight. It's currently an anonymous brick building on a busy road. The newer, far quieter, side of the station has a prominent illuminated sign. Thameslink refuse to add any proper signage to the busier side on Champion Hill, despite this being to the obvious detriment of hospital visitors and others.
