UPHOLD PLANS FOR A DEDICATED INTERNATIONAL WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY PLAQUEEvery year on 28th April, all around the world the trade union movement and worker organisations unite to mark International Workers Memorial Day (#IWMD). We remember those who lost their lives at work, or from work-related injury and diseases. We renew our efforts to organise collectively to prevent more deaths, injuries and disease as a result of work. This plaque would be the first of its kind in Liverpool dedicated to ALL workers who have lost their lives because of work. It would provide a central meeting point in Liverpool on each and every 28th April where people gather to remember lost loved ones and work colelagues & renew the IWMD pledge. This agreed plaque reads as follows: IN RESPECTFUL REMEMBERANCE OF ALL THOSE KILLED AT WORK OR THROUGH FAILURE OF RESPONSIBILITY-REMEMBER THE DEAD AND FIGHT FOR THE LIVING IWMD 2021 “THOSE WHO PUT PROFIT ABOVE WORKER SAFETY SHOULD NEVER GO UNCHALLENGED” TONY MULHEARN IWMD 2019276 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Union Safety

Take Scotland out of the Oscars goodie bagFirstly, the offer of meaningful titles is false, as land reform campaigner Andy Wightman has outlined. Secondly, it's a wounding insult for all Scots to see parts of our land traded like trinkets. For centuries, Scots have had almost no chance to own our own land thanks to clearances, absentee owners, and sky-high land prices. Actually not much has changed. It's why the Highlands are so full of empty glens - not people. Scotland is one of the last places in Europe where land can be bought and sold on a whim with no questions asked. As a result a tiny number of people own the land - fewer today than in 1872. This storm in a Goodie Bag reminds Scots why land reform is urgent and necessary - to turn the ownership of our beautiful country into the shared responsibility of Scots, not a trinket to be traded by strangers.7,614 of 8,000 SignaturesCreated by Lesley Riddoch

Respect and Protect Queen's MarketQueen's Market in Upton Park, East London, is very important to us - we want the market to grow and keep going into the future. That’s why we need the Council to RESPECT AND PROTECT QUEEN'S MARKET and look after it. We value Queen's Market for its Low-priced food - Trusted traders - Fresh, culturally-appropriate food - Generations of experience - Unique products - 166 stall pitches - It’s our social place where communities meet and feel safe - It’s historically over 120 years old, so it’s part of our heritage - It’s an ‘Asset of Community Value' - A great place to start small businesses. Shoppers and traders don't feel part of the big changes Newham is proposing for historic Queen's Market. Sign the petition to show your support for the Market and get the Council to respect shoppers and traders and put us at the centre of talks so our unique market can be preserved and improved.779 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Friends of Queens Market

Don't close Sainsbury's cafés!Keep open safe spaces for people who need them - they provide a safe space for many vulnerable people that is not replicated in normal cafes. I often use the cafe with my baby and having the extra space for a pram, not feeling rushed and the great baby change facilities is invaluable and not available to me elsewhere in the same way. This is a service you should provide along side the shop. Having a more expensive branded coffee chain in the shop would not be the same.226 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Marie Spinks

Stop gambling suicides, publish the Gambling Act white paper. In April 2021, I lost my husband, Luke, to gambling-related suicide. He was given "free bets" to encourage him to gamble during a global pandemic and at a time when gambling companies had promised to look after their most vulnerable customers. Public Health England estimates there are more than 400 gambling-related suicides in England alone each year – more than one every single day. The Government pledged to review the outdated gambling laws in its 2019 manifesto. The Gambling Act Review "white paper", where the government lays out proposed new laws to solve the problem, was expected at the end of 2020 but delay after delay means it still has not been published. If the gambling laws had changed to make gambling safer sooner – to stop free bets and other inducements, to curb the relentless advertising, to ensure people don't bet more than they can afford, and many other measures – Luke and hundreds of others would be alive today. Every day the white paper is delayed is another life lost, another family, like mine, needlessly shattered. It must be published now.90,847 of 100,000 SignaturesCreated by Annie Ashton

SAVE THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALLEach year the Premier League earns around £2.5bn from broadcasting revenue, of which less than 2% goes to professional clubs below the championship. That’s 140 clubs: The 24 clubs of League One, the 24 clubs of League Two, the 12 clubs of the Women’s Super League, the 12 clubs of the Women’s Championship, AND the 68 clubs in the National League. It is time to reallocate football’s wealth fairly and incentivise good behaviour. That's why a fan-led review into football has been carried out. It’s recommending introducing stronger financial controls, proper fan engagement and meaningful equality standards. And that it's all overseen by an independent regulator that has the power to enforce these changes. All of that can be brought together by the introduction of a Sustainability Index that gives money to clubs who score highly on four criteria: - Financial Sustainability - Good Governance - Equality Standards - Fan and Community Engagement32,087 of 35,000 SignaturesCreated by Fair Game

Save Sea Road Supermarket Site - SunderlandYou don't have to be a regular Sea Road shopper to want the place to thrive. It serves people of all ages and it's a thoroughfare from Seaburn Metro to the beach, especially in summer. The paper version of the petition also says: "We are also concerned that, at a time when there is a need to reduce vehicle emissions, people will be forced to make additional car journeys because they no longer have a store that sells a wide range of reliable quality goods within easy walking distance."875 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Tony WILD

Save the Walnuts Leisure Centre in OrpingtonWalnuts Leisure Centre is currently housed in a purpose-built two-level building, constructed in the early 1970s. It has stood the test of time and today it serves as a community hub, offering affordable services and amenities to children, adults and senior citizens. The new leisure centre that Areli (the developer) is offering will be smaller in terms of square footage, housed on a couple of floors in one of the towers. Yet Areli's proposed plans will bring 2000 new residents, which will add to the pressures on the membership capacity of the Leisure centre. We fear being priced out of our Leisure centre. Although Areli, keeps boasting about the proposed 25 metres competition size swimming pool, their plans clearly show lack of pool-side space, that makes the holding of such competitions very difficult. small pool is tiny unsuitable for lessons. See Ojay's (Keep Orpington Swimming) concerns on this link https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=keep%20orpington%20swimming The wide corridors of the current centre, the spacious halls and the large gym area, has meant that the leisure centre was made Covid-safe and was re-opened after lock down with complete confidence. If at the end of the day the decision to replace the Leisure centre is the one the Council opts for, the new leisure centre should be constructed before the current one is decommissioned. Furthermore, we need cast iron guarantees that the new leisure centre will be affordable and accessible by all residents who need it. Save Winchcombe's Youth CentreIn Winchcombe, Gloucestershire County Council owns a building that for years has been a youth centre. We have seen young people thrive as a result of their time in that space with our youth workers and those from organisations who used the space before us. It's proximity to the Sports Hall, central location, disabled access and parking make it the most suitable site in Winchcombe for continued Youth Services. As landlord, GCC has asked all current users of the building to move out whilst they assess it for repair and decide on its future. We want GCC to involve the community, especially young people, in their review of this building's future so that any refurbishment/re-design/re-let is appropriate for local need. Winchcombe needs a dedicated youth centre building, for too long young people have been squeezed out of physical spaces in our community and they deserve better. We are seeing now the impact of catastrophic cuts to open access youth services a decade ago, as waiting lists for counselling and mental health support spiral out of control, compounded by the recent pandemic. Community Youth Services from a dedicated building can help to support young people at a much earlier stage, reducing the pressure on over-stretched specialist services. Consulting with young people in the community over the future of their youth centre building should be a priority for GCC, however in our communications to date we have been given no indication that this will be the case. Local authorities have a statutory duty to secure, so far as is reasonably practicable, sufficient provision of educational and recreational leisure-time activities for young people and to make sure young people have a say in the local offer. (Education Act 1996 Section 507B) We need local support to add volume to our voice to GCC so that they will be willing to come and listen to the voices of young people. We are asking young people to write letters that we will send to GCC and we want to show adult support for that through this petition. Our goal is that through this petition and young people's letters GCC will actively seek out to listen to and act in response to the voices of young people in our community.355 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Gemma Madle
