  • SAVE OUR FRESH FISH AND MEAT COUNTERS AT ASDA
The reason why many people come into ASDA is because of the fresh meat and fish counters given the dwindling butchers and fishmongers’ shops on the high streets. If the fresh meat and fish counters were to close then they would not have the option of purchasing fresh meat and fish locally which is an important alternative to packaged and processed products. Also, the friendly staff provide social interaction that the shoppers enjoy – it is part of the shopping experience. According to the GMB union 2,832 staff jobs are at possible risk of redundancy. In my local store in Havant, this includes the 7 members of staff, some of whom have worked there for decades. Add your support now by signing this petition to let ASDA know its customers are very concerned and want senior management to hear their voice.

  • EDINBURGH NEEDS A PERMANENT MARKET/BOOT SALE PLACE
Its important as a community gathering .Often items were sold for pennies and items normally out of budget ranges were there at a reasonable price. I bough a lot of my clothes and dishes for my home there Along with curtains and other necessary items. Too many people live on hourly or short contracts and boot sales are invaluable Charity shops have almost priced some parts of our community out altogether Their prices have risen -a huge amount- Its also a great communal meeting point and if a permanent place was provided perhaps a small cafe could be set up too ,creating a job for someone??!! People just love a good market .

  • Reject the Corporate Takeover of The Edinburgh Fringe
As shameful as it is to admit, I knew about the problems at The Edinburgh Fringe long before the stand I am making now. I've been going as a participant and punter since 2011 and have had first-hand experience for the exploitation, shocking work-practices and health and safety concerns that many people are bravely being open about. You only need to read some of the articles of people who say 'Cambodia have better working conditions than the fringe' https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh-news/edinburgh-fringe-whistleblower-says-working-16020203 - or the amazing work Unite have done around holding individual venues such as C Venues to account (and even getting the University to withhold their venues). I attended the Fringe Society AGM in August 2019 with a clear question; In the Articles of Association, it lists the powers of the Fringe Society under point. 4.1.2 to ‘to educate, support, advise, and encourage those who participate in the Arts’, SUPPORT is the word I want to concentrate on here, because I feel that this has not been publicly fulfilled as dozens upon dozens of participants in the Edinburgh Fringe have publicly declared instances of low pay, being overworked, harassed, ill-treated, who knows how many are too frightened to come forward. For example the case of Shira Kaliski, who was quoted in the Sunday Mail that the conditions working in Cambodia are better than the Edinburgh Fringe; quoted as living off ‘slave wages’ ‘working 17 hour days’ sharing a room with 3 other people, no food, in the whole month, just three days off’. I have witnessed scenes working at the fringe myself, and implored to speak out. Why hasn’t the Fringe Society supported these people under this point, why has there been no public show of empathy, I understand that society directors are asked about things beyond their control, but this issue is under the articles of association, you may say this isn’t from someone who has directly contacted you, but I am happy to sit with Shona McCarthy and any board members, the board chair to tell you and show you evidence of exploitation, negligence and actions which I am reliable informed of as illegal, I’ve endured and so have others. The great things about the Fringe Society is that we can meet here today in a supportive space, where chief executives and participants respecting each other as equals, that will listen to one another and work supportively towards positive outcomes, that is something to be applauded and championed, so please can you respond to the point; are you aware of the conditions participants are made to work in, confirm that they are illegal and do you offer empathy? I have indeed met with Shona McCarthy and have had a very good conversation about how to work towards a positive solution. The Fringe Societies powers are limited, which may be part of the problem. This petition is to show that many Edinburgh Fringe Creatives and Workers need to know that the only public face of The Edinburgh Fringe actually understands the importance of the issue, can show empathy and work towards meaningful action with the organisations who are responsible.

Ealing council have applied to the charity commission to change the status so that it may be sold to developers. • Stop BBC scrapping the Red Button
The Red Button text service is so valued by older people who do not have access to the internet or a mobile phone, hence the many letters to the Radio Times letter page. This is a cheap but valued service.

  • Cyclists need to take responsibility
As people are encouraged more and more to take to the busy city streets on their bicycles, it's time for new laws to be put into place. It should be law for all cyclists to wear at very least a fully reflective jacket. More often than not cyclists are wearing little more than an old high visibility vest with faded reflective strips which makes them blend in to the surroundings. The cyclist who wears the modern design of safety wear eg. a jacket made fully from reflective material, is much easier to spot. Lights are essential and the mandatory amount of lighting needs to be increased. A cyclists with non reflective clothing and the minimum amount of lighting (small light to back and front) is almost invisible on city roads. A person travelling on a bike between parked cars and moving traffic wearing only old or no high visibility and with only a small red light can easily be mistaken by a driver using his mirrors as a reflection of lights from the multitude of traffic surrounding them. Cyclists should be identifiable. I often hear of cyclists scratching vehicles as they wind in and out of traffic (which in a car would be considered as dangerous driving), I have heard of cyclists spitting at cars and drivers, and I've witnessed first hand incidents caused by a cyclist who has managed to escape the scene with no comeback. A registration number would give pedestrians and driver the means to hold a cyclist responsible should they be involved in any sort of incident. Cyclists should not be overtaking cars within 1.5m of the side of a vehicle . Every vehicle has blind spots and a cyclist travelling close to the side of a car are putting themselves in huge danger of being hit. The law needs to change to pass the responsibility of cyclist safety back to the cyclist. No driver goes out planning to hit a cyclist - and cyclists should be made to take responsibility to be as visible as they can be.

  • Rebuild Earls Court
The UK is short of exhibition space and also needs more live music venues. The original venue was torn down by CapCo for luxury housing - but it is now an empty, flat wasteland and local businesses and residents are suffering.

  • Glastonbury: Introduce a Ballot
The current system is skewed towards those who can afford faster broadband, own several devices and live in locations where internet speeds are higher. Thousands of people reported site crashes on SeeTickets.com whilst inputting their registration or payment information. Glastonbury Festival was created as a way of bringing people together to share the joy of music and enjoy an atmosphere of unity and love. But with the demand for tickets increasing every year, it has simply become yet another money-making enterprise that skews in favour of the privileged few - including celebrities (from A list down to Z-list) who always get free tickets, and corporate tickets. A ballot system would enable a fairer distribution of tickets based on luck rather than internet speeds.

  • What Next for Kendal Post Office - Stamps and Banks
Earlier this year South Lakes Labour Party, the CWU and our local MP Tim Farron simultaneously launched SAVE KENDAL POST OFFICE campaigns after it was proposed by the Government that Kendal Crown Post Office would be closed and franchised into a totally inappropriate WHSmith premises. We successfully managed to convince the Government that Kendal Post Office should remain where it is. However this situation is not permanant as the current Conservative Government is likely to try to outscource our state owned assets at any cost. We are campaigning to stop this and in the event of any forthcoming Government change, in order to secure the future of Kendal and all Crown Post Offices , we believe that Post Offices should incorporate state sponsored NATIONAL & REGIONAL INVESTMENT BANKS (Labour) or BRITISH HOUSING & INFRASTUCTURE DEVELOPMENT BANKS (Lib Dem) as a way forward to help sustain Post Office viability and further enhance Britain's floundering High Streets and Town Centres. Having campaigned to Save Kendal Post Office from the clutches of WHSmith, it would be nice to think that Tim Farron MP can committ to Saving Kendal Post Office for good by giving his support for our radical but sensible suggestions.
