• Petition for a Community Governance Review
The current parish boundaries were drawn up long before Beverley had a building boom, which saw the settlement grow into the continuous built-up area we now know. The separation into three parish authorities is now outdated, and no longer reflects the community. It also means that some residents living in Beverley, specifically to the North and the South of Beverley, do not have a say on Beverley Town Council because they belong to Molescroft Parish and Woodmansey Parish. In other words, the current community governance arrangements hinder effective local government. Residents on Lincoln Way and the surrounding area are unlikely to consider themselves as living in Woodmansey. Moreover, residents have expressed concern that their interests are not properly represented on Woodmansey Parish, as exemplified in said parish council’s decision to commission a Neighbourhood Plan that covers only the village itself. As for Molescroft, it forms part of Beverley, and its residents ought to have a say on the Town Council; however, this cannot happen whilst there is a separate Molescroft Parish Council. To sum up, the current community governance arrangements hinder community cohesion and effective local government by artificially splitting the town of Beverley into three parts. The above recommendations · improve community engagement · bring communities closer together · create better local democracy · result in more efficient delivery of local services We are, therefore, asking East Riding of Yorkshire Council to undertake a community governance review to ensure that community governance arrangements reflect local identities and facilitate effective and convenient local government.

  • Support Homeless Artists in Bristol
Today, I walked past a gentleman near the Watershed who was playing his trumpet to a jazz track. It was wonderful to hear live music of such good caliber being performed for the general public. I stopped to listen to at least three pieces, and I applauded for each one. I dug into my wallet and pulled out a handful of coins and tossed them into his tipping hat, then handed him my business card (I'm a private piano teacher) and told him to give me a call if he ever wanted an accompanist. Later this afternoon, I walked past a woman named Lily Bell, whom I've seen before in Broadmead selling her beautiful cards and prints featuring her original artwork. But today, Lily had no artwork to sell. Instead, she was writing with a fat black marker on a white piece of poster board, "POLICE HAVE TAKEN MY ART AFTER I KEEP PAYING LICENCE FEES. I WAS MAKING AN HONEST LIVING, NOW DEGRADED TO..." She didn't get to finish her sign because I began questioning her regarding the details. She explained that she has already applied for her street vendor's licence but hadn't yet received it. She had no proof that she paid for her permit, so the police confiscated her artwork. She is a peaceful woman who is homeless and trying to sell her original art to help make a decent living without panhandling or begging for handouts. And now, she has no artwork to sell, no place to live, and no where to turn. I think it is unfair that the police have taken what is rightfully hers in order to discourage her from selling on the street. She doesn't want a hand out--she wants a hand up. She needs her community to have her back.

  • Don't cut vital support for disabled people in Eltham
George Osborne has announced plans to take £70 a week away from thousands of people with disabilities, by cutting Personal Independence Payments (PIP). For many of us, this will mean losing the crucial support which enables us to get out of the house. Many people in our area would be hit hard by this cut. This petition calls on our local MP to do all they can to stop this cruel and unfair plan. Please, show your support for local people with disabilities and help stop the cuts to PIP.

  • Silence The Power Tool Industry
To make it possible for people to enjoy their work and leisure time at home in relative peace without the deafening cacophony of an endless stream of power tools. The professional gardeners using these items tend to wear ear defenders which goes to show what a racket they make. I have personally had to abandon a weekend barbecue with friends as we could not hear each other speak due to the use of 3 power tools at once by the next door neighbours gardeners for over an hour. Surely this breaches noise pollution levels?

  • Keep Our Voluntary Sector Grants
The volunteer Services Grants scheme enables many charities and voluntary organizations to keep going locally to provide essential services for those who are in need of it. Between 30-40 local charities and voluntary organisations will loose the chance to bid for the £366,000 funding to pay for essential costs. Youth services, homeless support and elderly support will diminish and 20 organizations have said that their charitable activities will half and are at risk of disappearing entirely. We need to now stand up for our charities that have given us all a safety net if the worst should happen and sound assistance when us or are loved ones need help.

  • DISABLED MAN SUFFERING WITH CANCER BANNED FROM SPORTS CLUB
Stephen Sowden a middle aged disabled man suffering with cancer has been banned from his local disabled sorts club. Stephen lives in the Harold Hill suburb of the London Borough of Havering has attended the Havering Disabled Sports Association since 2007 taking part in the sport of archery. In September last year Stephen was banned from this organisation for under very dubious circumstances. He asked to appeal the decision and was aided by a local campaigner and the hearing was held in a public environment which has been described as a Kangaroo court. Since Stephen’s dismissal from the HDSA both the local authority who have financed this organisation unconditionally for a number of years and his local MP have refused to come to Stephens aid. In a number of disturbing developments Stephen has been subject to threatening phone call’s first from an individual masquerading as a journalist from a national newspaper who tried to belittle his story and since this unsavoury incident has received a number of calls from if not the same another individual advising him their will be dire consequences if he continues to pursue having his membership re-instated. This seems unbelievable in our country in 2016 that a disabled individual can still be subject to this kind of discrimination and intimidation belonging to a different era of countries history. Please see below a statement from Stephen he made shortly after his membership was terminated: "I have been a member of Havering Disabled sports association for many years and due to my Disabilities have had opportunities I would not have had without the transport and help provided. Three weeks ago I was informed my name had been taken of the transport list and I was not to attend the meetings. I eventually contacted one of the Committee in order to find out what had happened but got no information. Last week I got a letter telling me to attend a Committee meeting at the Broxhill centre if I wished to Discuss my situation. I replied to the letter stating that I would be happy to attend but would bring some one to help me and witness the meeting. This was agreed. I went expecting a meeting with the three committee members but was surprised to find that they intended to hold the meeting in front of all the members of the club with no privacy. They had it seemed decided to put me in front of a Kangaroo court and proceeded to ask me personal questions about my Health and private life. They had no evidence of any wrong doing only hearsay and accusations with out any substance. However one of the members stated that if I was to come back he would leave the club simply because he had not liked my attitude. I am at present expecting them to stop me attending the club. They have handled this in a very unprofessional way and have treated me with total disregard for my feelings. I am asking that if a Charity funded by the Council and its tax payers has to comply with any anti bullying regulations and if they are given funding for transport can they simply stop allowing me to use it. I have done nothing wrong and have been under a lot of strain lately having my original disability and having had two major operations for mouth cancer last year. I am still not able to eat solids and have problems speaking or writing due to the operations. If you are unable to help me can you point me to some one who can". We as a group of campaigners and concerned citizens who live in the London Borough of Havering are demanding a proper enquiry into the reasons why Stephens membership was cancelled and will petition the HDSA to re-instate unconditionally Stephen’s membership . All Stephen wants is to be able to continue his beloved sport of archery and get on with his life without intimidation and prejudice. With best wishes. TEAM STEPHEN

  • Return the Lochgelly Community Council back to the Community
Community Councils are a cornerstone of any community and legally are not allowed to be politically motivated. By allowing three activists take up key position in the Lochgelly Community Council for the benefit of local Labour councillors then community representation is lacking and the process of local representation and local democracy is subverted to benefit political agendas to the detriment of the wider community.

  • Create a 21st century icon that represents visible and non visible disabilities
The current Wheelchair Symbol, while internationally recognised, is found offensive by some and confusing to many. It is wrongly thought to be the representative image for disability and causes people to falsely benchmark other disabilities against it. This causes numerous instances of judgemental comments/abuse toward people using accessible facilities, for legitimate reasons, who show no outward signs of being disabled. The widespread use of the symbol re-inforces a stereotype which, is then compounded with media stories of benefits cheats/scroungers faking disability.
