The Editor's Code tries to protect the loved ones of a deceased person in grief and shock - but it doesn't go far enough. There is ambiguity about the use of social media by the press that needs to be rectified by clarity within the Code to stop stories being manipulated - and a death or illness exploited. My brother, Felix Schroer, died on 20th March 2020. He had worked for the soap Hollyoaks and his employers of 20 years, Lime Pictures, announced the closing of production at the same time as issuing a press release about my brother's death, which clearly stated that the family were not connecting the unexplained sudden death with Covid 19. We had no idea why my brother had suddenly died. Desperate for a celebrity Covid 19 story, my Twitter feed was mined by the press and comments I made in a tweet were taken completely out of context. The press misrepresented what I said to suggest that I had 'confirmed' my brother had died in 'fear of the virus' or suspected that he had it. In this way the death could be linked with the closure of the soap due to Covid 19, when in fact it was just coincidental. Felix had explained the soap would probably close to me the day before he died. As I explained on Twitter, anyone with a persistent cough would be concerned about Covid 19 in the pandemic - and on its own this was not a news story at all. We wanted answers about why my brother died and I hadn't confirmed anything. No one ever spoke to me to make sure they had understood the points I was trying to make. I am a health professional/health researcher and use Twitter for campaigning and raising awareness about political and social injustices - and I had every right, as a citizen, to question the government's policies on Covid 19 testing - asking why some people were getting tests and other's weren't. I had a right to ask questions about why my brother might have died - whilst also saying we must wait for answers, which I did. The day after the press reports, the coroner called me to say the post mortem we had been informed would take place might not happen - if Felix had died from a pre-existing condition there was no need for a post mortem. Even IPSO asked me if I had indeed tweeted a particular tweet before the post mortem. I had to point out the press coverage may have jeopardised the post mortem ever taking place. I wrote to the coroner. I explained that my brother had experienced what he felt was a very strange reaction to taking the antibiotic medication doxycycline, which was prescribed for a chest infection. The coroner agreed to conduct a post mortem after our conversation and a post mortem was done on 27th March. This examination revealed my brother had very clearly died of a heart attack - there was no respiratory infection at all. I then completed an MHRA (Medicines Health Regulation Authority) Yellow Card to report the Adverse Drug Reaction as a cardiac adverse reaction and I reported the drug was linked with a fatality. I informed my brother's employers about the heart attack on 27th March but still - two weeks after my brother's employers had learned the cause of death, the tabloids continued with the story relating the death to Covid 19. This happened after Felix's colleagues at Lime Pictures paid a tribute to him, (which he would have very much enjoyed), by wearing blue, the colour of the football team he supported. The story was again taken from social media. His work colleagues who wanted to honour Felix ended up feeling devastated they had caused upset to the family - who had been extremely distressed by the press coverage. But this was not their fault. Even though it was my twitter feed that had been used to create the false narrative, ever since March 31st, Felix's employers, Lime Pictures, ceased communication with me. The company stonewalls me and neither Felix's oldest and closest friend or I cannot get them to deal with the press to put things right - they just do not answer our emails. This is absolutely devastating for us as all this only happened because of Felix's connection to Hollyoaks as he is not a celebrity or famous person. This story should have been corrected immediately after the company learned my brother died of a heart attack. They should also have denied links made between the closure of the soap and the death of my brother. The argument I found myself confronted with, before communication with me ceased, was that there was no shame in dying of Covid 19. The real story was the missed illness in the pandemic - and the fact that so many more may die of heart disease when the symptoms are so similar to respiratory illness. Felix's respiratory symptoms resulted from pulmonary oedema - fluid on the lungs - because his heart was increasingly failing - not an infection. Patients with heart disease need to be carefully triaged in this pandemic or their illness will be missed - as my brother's was. I just wanted something positive to come out of my brother's death for others. I hope this petition will raise awareness - to help others with heart disease. The least my brother deserves after such a tragic and potentially preventable death is accurate reporting about why he died. This isn't about blaming anyone in the medical profession - it is about appreciating there may be uncertainties and challenges when people are ill and in death and relatives have every right to ask questions without fear they will be targeted to create false narratives. Anyone who has lost a brother or sister will know just how hard this is - especially when the death comes out of the blue like it did. I should not have had to deal with all this on top of his death. I would like IPSO to clarify the way that social media can be used by the press in illness and death so this doesn't happen again.

The most vulnerable people in our community are unable to access paid for delivery services and Foodbank locations and are unable to feed themselves and their families. The restrictions of the Coronavirus outbreak and loss of income , benefits delays and self isolation led to The 1010 Trust setting up a service to deliver meals and food hampers to those in need. Since the start of the outbreak they have fed 20000 people . A key part of this has been local council funding and support from key workers who have been outstanding. Today South Ayrshire Council withdrew that funding and support jeopardising this vital service and risking thousands of people in South Ayrshire’s access to food

A national monument for a national treasure! A WW2 veteran approaching his 100th birthday, Captain Tom Moore has captured the hearts of the nation and is a source of national pride and hope. He has been a beacon of light in the darkest of times, an inspiration to us all and a real life hero. At a time it is needed the most, Captain Tom (& his walking frame) is raising tens of millions of pounds for the NHS charities and raising morale throughout the UK and the rest of the globe. Can one person really make a difference? Yes they can! Captain Tom Moore has shown us that. A statue of Captain Tom & his stroller, would remind us all, commemorate the amazing work of the NHS and serve as a fitting thank you and birthday gift to Tom from the people of Great Britain (and hopefully a Knighthood from the Queen). This statue would celebrate the positive actions of the one and the many, during the time of this pandemic and be a memorial to the lives of those lost. Once the temporary exhibition time in Trafalgar Square has expired, it is hoped that this statue would then go on to be exhibited across the UK at different locations, on tour.

No need to mention what has happened this year, but this sporting event has captured the country like no other. Captain Tom Moore, was aiming to walk a hundred lengths of the back garden (25m in length) before he reached his 100th birthday on the 30th April - and today - he smashed it, finishing two weeks early. So, during these difficult times and with the sporting calendar being "paused" - wouldn't it be great to remember this incredible effort by a determined and inspirational man and his truly amazing achievement? Tom Moore is 99 years old and has raised nearly £30 million for the NHS by getting people to sponsor him for walking around his garden. This is important because Tom Moore has shown true selflessness and has the support of the country behind him.

In recognition of his outstanding efforts in supporting the NHS front line staff during this current Coronavirus pandemic.

Reading Gaol is of huge national and international cultural significance in terms of its history and its ties to Oscar Wilde’s incarceration there. For the LGBT community those connections to Oscar Wilde are of heightened importance. Wilde wrote “De Profundis,” from his cell and the site was later the inspiration for his poem: “The Ballad of Reading Gaol” As a listed building and a Scheduled Monument, it is of national historical importance. The eastern section of the 900 year old Abbey church and quite possibly the site of Henry I’s tomb lie underneath the ground. The community in Reading and beyond feel that it's best future is as a cultural and arts site that can share this history and complete the Abbey Quarter for Reading. The council submitted a bid for the site with the support of the community. Matt Rodda MP for Reading East has said "I am concerned that the Government still want to sell the gaol to the highest bidder and I understand they now have a preferred bidder who they are working with." Alok Sharma as the neighbouring MP for Reading West prior to the election spoke in support of saving the site, wore a 'save Reading Gaol T-shirt' and said he would back the campaign. We call on him to act on these words now. As a member of the government he is in a unique position to ensure that this special site is saved for our community.

The Coronavirus pandemic is a global emergency and the daily Government updates are one of the most important broadcasts of our time. That is why it is vital deaf people have access to such crucial information at this time and having a British Sign Language interpreter at the daily press conferences would make it easier for deaf people to follow at home.

It has been an ongoing issue for some time that the MusicLicence (PRS/PPL) charging basis for charitable village halls is unfair, because it is calculated on the gross income of the charity, even though most village halls only have music occasionally (e.g. dance classes or a wedding hire). The fee basis is understandable for music venues or theatre, but not for village halls, where it represents a disproportionate amount of their total expenses . With many village halls badly affected by cancelled hirings because of the coronavirus problem, the Government should come to the aid of village halls by asking PRS/PPL to waive the fee immediately, while they sort out a fairer fee basis for the future.

If The Prime Minister issues a compulsory order, this will at least enable all businesses listed above to claim on insurance to mitigate some of their losses during this emergency. Leaders of other European countries have done this, to enable the businesses to close, protect the public, help the health service, and enable these businesses to continue to trade after this emergency. We need this to happen to protect these businesses. Don't let this be as Don MacLean once sang " the day that music died". This could otherwise be the death knell for businesses we rely on for much needed entertainment and leisure.

Companies paying for pitches should not be more important to a children’s charity then the children they receive funding for to improve their lives. Coram football pitches are the only pitches in this inner city, deprived area. Being a children’s charity they have always allowed children and young people the use of the pitches. Even the evenings when they were available for hire there was one dedicated pitch for free play. The new pitch restrictions, means outside of the dedicated (1-3pm Saturday & Sunday) children are not welcome. Other times young people must book in advance. So as well as taking away young people’s safe place where they can channel there energy into something positive & participate in sports Corams is also preventing siblings, cousins and friends playing football together. As well giving them silly time slots. So if a parent works in the morning for example and wants to take the kids for a kick about in the late afternoon this is no longer possible. This is an important cause-Corams is a hub of the community. Half terms, summer holidays, after school & weekends our children and young people should have the same access to the football pitch (at least one pitch) like they have always had.
