• Leicester City: Ditch single use plastic
By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our seas. But Premier League football clubs still give out hundreds of thousands of single use plastic items every single matchday. Plastic cups, straws, stirrers, bags, they all end up clogging up our oceans and filling landfills. Football supporters shouldn't be forced to contribute to plastic pollution, just because they want a drink or some food at a match.

Football supporters shouldn't be forced to contribute to plastic pollution, just because they want a drink or some food at a match. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an island of discarded plastic that is now triple the size of France. Some organisms thrive off discarded plastic, forming a new type of ecosystem called a "plastisphere". Scientists have found plastic bags at the bottom of the Mariana Trench 36,000 feet below sea level. A glass bottle can take roughly one million years to degrade in the environment. Every year 18 billlion pounds of plastic seeps into oceans from coasts.

  • Save Lambeth Children's Centres!
Only two years after the last round of devastating cuts to our children's centres, many children in Lambeth are in danger of losing out on essential early years support. The Council have announced plans for a borough-wide restructure, which threatens five centres with closure. Another seven centres will have their provision cut in half under these proposals, and many staff are faced with losing their jobs. Children's Centres are a vital service for parents and their children in our local area. They combat isolation and loneliness which many of us experience when on maternity leave or looking after early years children. They provide support and guidance from professionals as well as a chance to mix with a range of families you didn't know before.

  • Label food bank friendly items to make donating easier
More families than ever are struggling to get by and unable to afford to put food on the table. Food banks are a vital lifeline for these families, providing emergency food parcels that stop them going hungry because they simply can’t afford the food they need. With the number of people using food banks on the rise, making sure enough food is donated to feed everyone is more important than ever. A new scheme at Sainsbury’s has found that putting labels on the shelves of items food banks need most can triple donations. I volunteer at a food bank and everyday I’m there I meet families struggling to afford to put food on their table, it can be heartbreaking. With such a simple way to make sure food banks have enough donations to feed everyone who comes, it’s a no-brainer. Every supermarket should be following Sainsbury’s lead.

  • 'These Walls Must Fall' Motion Bristol
"Over 30,000 people are locked up in prison-like conditions every year, with no time limit on how long they can be held. This is not for having committed a crime. It is purely because they do not (yet) have the correct immigration papers. The majority of people detained are eventually released, but many never really recover from the trauma. It’s a terrible waste of money (£125 million a year), and a waste of lives. Immigration detention is a wholly unnecessary, unjustifiable practice, one of the most harmful aspects of the UK’s “hostile environment” for migrants and a shameful civil rights abuse that cannot be ignored."
