  • Stop bullying app SimSimi
SimSimi has quickly become one of the U.K.’s most popular apps. Yet, this chat-box is often used to bully others. In fact, it allows users to anonymously programme a series of messages – regardless of how abusive, violent or explicit these may be – so that they are received by the targeted victim as soon as s/he logs into the app and searches their name. Due to the anonymity of these messages, it is next to impossible to hold bullies accountable. For these reasons, schools and even police forces in the U.K. have had to resort to sending letters to parents in order to warn them about the app. Even though SimSimi is restricted to people who are 17 years old or older, many children who are much younger than that have been able to download it. Most parents are unaware of the fact that ‘Simi Simi’ is dangerous for their children and that they could be at risk of bullying, which is bound to have serious implications on them. SimSimi must be banned before it causes even more damage. A few years ago the website Ask.fm was banned – but only after a few teenagers had committed suicide following the bullying they experienced using it. We must be quicker this time to ensure the same does not happen again.

  • Save Houston Farm Riding School
Houston Farm provides riding lessons and for all ages, including special needs and disabled children, many of whom have ridden with the Comries for years and very much treat the riding school as a second home. The Comries have provided a safe haven for many Adults and children where the horses have helped provide personal challenges, develop responsibilities and support in times of hardship such as bereavement. The Comries have provided work experience to Oatridge college students and equine experience for the many children and adult helpers. The Comries run regular Pony Clubs, fairs and Ceilidh’s and other fund raising activities to support the retired horses and other charities such as Red Nose Day and is very much more than just a business. Houston Farm cannot be allowed to close, it is too important and provides so much benefit to so many people, of which many are local.

  • Save the 200 year old Stag Pub in Battersea
Wandsworth Council is allowing developers to push through planning for this historic building to be demolished before Special Protection for pubs in the borough is introduced in August. North Battersea is already going through extensive change, with excessive development taking place. The local community demands that adequate amenities and services are provided. Otherwise the area risks losing its appeal as a leafy suburb and will become nothing more than a high rise dormitory.

  • Save Cosgrove Gardens, Carrhill Road, Mossley
This is not 'wasted, surplus or under-utilised' land - it is a well used, respected and important community asset. Local people value this green park very highly - it is a communal and vibrant community space offering safe play for children and offering calm, perspective and solace for people of all ages. It is part of Mossley's rich heritage and culture and was gifted to local people. If you take away our community there will be no community. No place to gather, to share, to enjoy, to engage with each other. No place for cohesion, for young and old to connect. Take this space off the 'for sale' list - give it back to the community where it belongs. We will sit in this space, we will talk and walk and play in this space. We will think and reflect in this space. We will be proud of this space and of our town. We will maintain it, preserve it and allow it to prosper so it can be enjoyed and appreciated by this and future generations. It is hugely important to us. GIVE COSGROVE GARDENS BACK TO US

  • GYBC please reconsider the licence application for a soup kitchen run by the Tribal Trust
It has come to our attention that the licence from GYBC to be able to park and run a soup kitchen on the market place has been refused as the "soup kitchen is not required". Yet, over the last 3 months the soup kitchen has helped out a large number of vulnerable people with both food and clothing. If they were to obtain the licence, that would provide a central point for the Tribal Trust to work from and help provide for vulnerable people to meet for food and drinks / clothing and a friendly chat. It is a much required service in our opinion. https://www.facebook.com/TblTrust/

  • No More Homeless Deaths!
It is abhorrent that in a country as wealthy as ours, a man has been allowed to die on the streets of Glasgow because he had nowhere to go. Glasgow City Council website states that: “As a minimum, the council will arrange for you to receive: Advice and Information Temporary Accommodation” We demand that Glasgow City Council acts immediately to fulfil it's duty to the people of Glasgow. Everyone who presents themselves at a Council facility as homeless, should immediately be provided with somewhere safe and warm to stay, until such times as they are able to find permanent accommodation. Furthermore, we demand an end to the policy of abandoning our friends who are deemed to have made themselves intentionally homeless. This unfairly punishes people unfamiliar with the law or who are victims of bullying by rogue landlords.

  • SUPPORT Plans to Build Tynemouth Watch House Garden CYCLE HUB
The CYCLE HUB will compliment our beautiful coastline whilst providing a 'stand-out' attraction for the many cyclists, tourists and general public whom already frequent the Spanish Battery. The development will assist with the enhancement and preservation of the Tynemouth conservation area and local heritage for generations to come. North Tyneside attracts approximately 5.8 million visitors each year who inject £279 Million into the local economy, supporting over 3500 jobs. This proposal will open a disused private garden into a considerate, visually low-impact CYCLE HUB that will only be visible from the southern aspect on the River Tyne. From the outset the building has been sensitively designed to ensure the iconic views to and from the Brigade Watch House remain unspoilt. The building will be sunk beneath a manicured lawn at the same level as the current garden. We have even gone as far as to store refuse bins below ground level. Two large car parks already exist to provide customers with parking. Additional spaces will be allocated for the sole use of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigades response vehicles, whilst residents parking will remain untouched. Those living on the Battery will be un-effected by the building as the aim is to cater for passing trade that already exists. The vast majority of our intended customers will arrive by foot or cycle. Our vision is to provide Tynemouth with a gateway amenity that links to the National Cycle Network and provides a valuable facility for Tynemouth residents and the wider general public. The development will ensure a notable finishing point for those tackling the challenge of the Coast to Coast/Coast to Castles/Great North Bike Rides. In essence the Cycle Hub will establish Tynemouth as a key destination within the cycling community. A multitude of independent reporting commissioned by UK GOV indicates that development and investment in cycling infrastructure and sustainable transport provides the following: • Creates inward investment to an area. • Brings more jobs and positively effects the labour market, contractors and wider infrastructure/services. • Increases health of those in the area, with exercise in excess of Chief Medical Officers guidelines. • Boosts the local economy and business • Creates a modal shift in the well being of individuals. • Increases social inclusion and connectivity. • Makes better cities and neighbourhoods. • A reduction in Crime Rate. • An increase in rental and property prices. • Eases congestion. • Improves air quality. The North East of England is renowned for its warmth and hospitality, we look forward to providing a facility that welcomes one and all.

  • Save Hengrove Park from housing development
Hengrove Park is the largest open recreational space in South Bristol, and an important resource used by the local community for sports and leisure activities. But Bristol Council wants to drastically reduce it in size by concreting over the majority it for housing - which will result in part of this precious resource being lost forever. The park is currently 76 hectares in size, but the proposed development of around 1700 houses would build on 45 hectares of it - reducing it in size by more than half. The green space left will be considerably smaller and fragmented, and a shadow of the current amenity. Parks must be protected for communities and future generations, and the Council needs to understand how passionately people feel about public assets being sacrificed for development. Local councillors recently blocked a move to build this increased number of houses, and the council's proposal is being referred to a special meeting on Monday March 27th 4pm at the Council House, College Green, Bristol, which could overturn their attempts to block the expanded development. They urgently need our support.
