Stop charges for vehicle recovery if stolenBecause it is immoral that any person who has had their vehicles stolen should have to pay an extortionate amount to get possession back of there property, we already have to go through the process of insurance rises and loss of earnings, we understand that if it is not MOT'd, Taxed or insured. fair play, but when it has been stolen from your home, place of work or shopping etc , then in order to get it back you are charged a fee of somewhere between £150-£250 and then daily additional fees on top. BELLS ON BIKESHere is my letter to which I have not had a reply: Dear Mr Rutley M.P., Today I had a close shave in the Weston Estate park when I narrowly escaped serious injury in a collision with a cyclist. There was absolutely no warning and I can only put it down to intuition that caused me to turn in time. In turning I lost balance and fell to the ground. The cyclist, a youth perhaps in late teens shouted out an abusive comment and rode on. Luckily I fell on the grass verge of the football pitch. It took me a while to scrabble about putting my groceries back into my shopping bag and even longer to get upright. At eighty years of age it is not so easy to get up from a prone position without assistance which in this case there was none. I recall when I was a young boy cycling home from school along the pavement and I was stopped by a policeman. Apparently I was guilty of a number of crimes: in not having a serviceable bell on my handlebars, a front lamp that wasn't working, no chain guard and seemingly most criminal of all - of riding on the pavement. After having had my name and address taken I was cautioned and let go on condition that I address the offences forthwith. I now wonder why bells have disappeared from bicycles and why cycling is permitted in public parks. Another worrying factor is that I could well have received a much more serious upset such as a broken hip or even been the victim of a stroke. I am writing to you to ask firstly, if you can do something about the hazards presented to the elderly by cyclists and latterly bring up the subject of a bicycle proficiency, appropriate insurance and a number plate for identification in the case of an accident such as I have described. I do appreciate that in the light of ever expanding queues at food banks and the latest terrorist activities my complaint might appear as very trivial indeed but nothing is trivial to the OAP lying in hospital with pneumonia following hip surgery. Perhaps if you have no interest in this matter you would be kind enough to tell me to whom I should be writing. Bring Speed Restrictions to Plox GreenVisibility is poor on this junction, particularly turning from Farm Lane towards Minsterley. Children cross this road to wait for the Mary Webb School & Science College bus and Minsterley Motors bus service; they need to be, and to feel, safe. Motorcyclists and car drivers leaving Minsterley see this stretch of the A488 as an opportunity to accelerate, often not respecting even the 60mph limit, which is already too high for this junction. Similarly, Farm Lane serves the whole of the Snailbeach/Stiperstones region and this creates a lot of traffic in the rush hour and tourist season, including bicycles and pedestrians. In term time, there are often children walking up and down Farm Lane. Many drivers approach the last bend towards the Plox Green junction at high speeds. Residents often hear squealing of wheels and brakes on the main road and Farm Lane. Residents have witnessed several accidents on both the A488 junction at Plox Green, and on the approach to the bridge by the junction on Farm Lane, Plox Green. Also, cars coming down the Hope Valley sometimes do not note that vehicles are turning up towards Snailbeach. There has been at least one accident, and much driver stress, waiting to turn right and watching in the rear view mirror as vehicles approach at high speed from Hope. There was much successful improvement made to the road 20 years ago to reduce the number of accidents. This means that cars can now travel at much higher speeds at less risk to themselves. However, there is now a greater risk to vehicles emerging from Snailbeach direction, and children, cyclists, bus users, and tourists. This is a residential cross roads. Keep pedestrians safeThis is a blind crossing point, because of the configuration of the junction, and the fence round the adjoining property. It is much used by persons wishing to access the Sherwood House surgery at 9 Sandon Road, many of whom are elderly, disabled, or young mums. Vehicle Insurances for young peopleWe all now how important Human Rights are in the 21st century. We fight for the equal employment rights for women, we fight for the equality in regards to different races and cultures, however we sometimes forget to fight for ourselves. Yes, I am aiming this at you: young generation living in the United Kingdom. Car insurance companies in the UK are claiming that young drivers are a much higher risk to other road users, thus they deserve to pay premiums, which 90% of us can not pay. Did they test your driving skills? Do they know how well aware and careful you are when driving on the road? No! I believe this means that we - younger generation are being discriminated against based on our age, despite the fact that the majority of young drivers are much more careful on the road than perhaps the older generation. I, my self have been driving in this country for 5 years now - I am 23 years old, which means that I have 5 years of No Claim Bonus's. However, I still somehow end up paying over 3.000 pounds per year for my car insurance. And no - I do not drive a BMW or a Mercedes; it is a Toyota. The Government, despite knowing about the situation does not seem to be doing much about it, so I believe it is time for us to stand up and fight for our rights - just like the others do. We just simply want to drive! Just like the others. Its high time that something has to be done to make cycling safer in the borough and to prevent any further incidents happening in the future. Keep 119 Bus service for PenningtonThe 119 bus service is a bus service that runs between Lymington and New Milton. Other bus services also travel this route but the 119 is the only service that goes via Pennington village. It is the only bus that the elderly and infirm can access because the other services all stop at other ends of the village. It may not seem like an important issue but for people unable to access the X1/2 services then they are left isolated and abandoned. Safer Routes to SchoolDear Leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council. To get my three children (8, 6 and 4) to school I have to cross a busy main road. This road is so busy that we usually have to stand on the tiny courtesy crossing in the middle of the road – that's me, at least three children, the odd scooter, school bags and other paraphernalia – and wait for a break in the traffic. In the middle of the road. This is not a safe way to get to and from school. I have spoken to other parents with similar complaints about walking their children to school safely. They too have to wait on so-called courtesy crossings to get across the road. They have to catch the eye of drivers in order to cross the road safely. They have to squeeze past lorries parked on the pavement. They have to step out between parked cars to cross the road to school. This is unacceptable. We are asking you, the council, to commit to our manifesto for Safer Routes to Schools. The objectives are listed below. No parent or child should have to rely on the courtesy of a driver to cross the road on the way to school. No parent or child should have to wait in the middle of the road to complete a crossing on the way to school. No parent or child should have to make eye contact with vehicle drivers to cross the road on the way to school. No parent or child should have to walk more than 150 metres out of their way to get to a safe crossing on the way to school. No parent or child should have to squeeze past cars or lorries parked on the pavement on the way to school. The council will commit to consulting on designated safe routes to school that fulfil the above criteria within six months of taking office. The council will consult school PTAs and other parent groups across Bath within this timeframe. The council will install the required safe crossings within six months of the completed consultation. Safer Routes to Schools would have many benefits. These include reduced pollution, less traffic congestion and healthier children. Most importantly, if our children can walk to school along designated safe routes our children can have some of the freedom and independence they desperately need.
