STOP PROMOTING SWEETENERS TO CHILDREN: LISTENRecent background: 1. In August ’16 Government gave a policy statement in relation to the Sugary Drinks Industry Levy that Key component of Childhood Obesity Strategy is to promote diet drinks. It was no.1 in a list of ‘12 Things You Should Know’, published on the government’s news website. The ‘reformulation’ of products, which currently amounts to replacing sugar with artificial sweeteners, was to be extended to other products deemed too high in sugar, regular yoghurts are among the cited foods. Questions challenging the policy were blocked at the Health Matters Live event in November ’16. Citations of studies and reviews that concluded not enough was known about the safety of sweeteners, were removed from a Wikipedia site on Sugar Taxes. The effect of the strategy has been an escalation in the use of sweeteners by manufacturers, and it is not immediately clear, when choosing items from the shelves in supermarkets, that sweeteners are being used where once they were not. Products may not be described as ‘diet’ or ‘with sweeteners’, other than in smaller print on the ingredients label. (Neotame and advantame may legitimately be used without any mention on the ingredients label.) 2. In January ’17 a Government Health Report announced that for success there needed to be zero price promotions on ‘unhealthy’ products. To use the same example, regular yoghurts are classed as ‘unhealthy’, artificially sweetened ones as the ‘healthy’ option. The effect of this move is to limit the affordable choices for poorer families wanting to give their children a healthy balanced diet with less emphasis on sweet things, but with no artificial sweeteners. All have the right to make informed healthy choices. The right to an informed choice is being eroded. Place a moratorium on the introduction of new polymer bank notesNobody likes the new polymer notes as they are hard to stack and are so slick they easily slip out of pockets. Add to this the fact the polymer is made with animal extracts that makes them repugnant to certain faiths and beliefs. People have no choice as to what notes to use and this may well be a breach of their Human Rights.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Oliver Lynton

Save Coldwaltham’s flower-rich hay meadow. The South Downs National Park has a duty 'to conserve and enhance natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage' and a 'duty to foster social well-being of local communities within the National Park'. We demand that the South Downs National Park adheres to their duties and allows us a say in what happens in our village. This beautiful flower-rich hay meadow is at the edge of our village and if it is destroyed the meadow will be lost and we will merge with the next village of Watersfield. The two distinct villages will become a small town. Our village is small, we have a small school, a pub and a church. Our post office is only open 3 mornings a week. There are no jobs and you need a car to get anywhere! Flower-rich hay meadows were once a common sight in the countryside but sadly since the 1930's they have declined by a shocking 97%. (source: PlantLife). Part of the UK’s natural and cultural heritage, nearly 7.5 million acres of wildflower meadows have now been lost. Meadows like this are now sadly very rare. They are a crucial habitat for farmland wildlife. "We regularly see Barn Owls sweeping across the meadow late at night. Buzzards and Red Kites following the farmer when he cuts the meadow for hay. A fox and her cubs have been seen playing only this week in the meadow" said Stephanie Croft, a local resident. "I have lived in Coldwaltham for over 50 years, having been born and bred nearby. The destruction of this meadow hurts and worries me, thinking of my children's children never being able to run in or see the flower meadow." said Jasmine Robinson another local resident.99 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Coldwaltham Meadow Conservation Group

A unique EducationMy son is autistic and has sensory processing disorder, as you can imagine visiting shops cafes can be very difficult and stressful for me as a mum and absolutely distressing for my son. But life needs to go on and errands need to be ran. Me and my son have had several incidents where he's been having a meltdown and we've recieved comments from employees about his "behaviour" as a parent its heartbreaking to hear such comments and you end up feeling very isolated. So I have come up with a plan. I would like to educate as many employees in shops, soft play centres ect on the difference between a typical tantrum and an autistic meltdown. I feel this will be beneficial to parents of autistic children and the children themselves to help us cope in a world that's extremely difficult for us to be part of! So I ask you to please sign this petition for all the wonderfully unique children and their parents37 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hannah Walker

Safer city cycling. And towns too! This makes use of the paths that are already in place alongside most roads in towns and cities. Generally each road has two paths. For example the north to south path could be for pedestrians, the south to north for bicycles. More zebra crossings would be required to allow people to get to their side of the road. Side roads exiting onto main roads would need ’stop' signs rather than ’give way’ signs to ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians. The onus should be on the cars to stop as they are the ’stronger’ vehicles, can start and stop more readily and are the more dangerous in every sense. It would subtly shift the emphasis away from the cars dominion. Perceived danger deters people from cycling. From personal health to environmental issues, the fewer cars compared to pedestrians and cyclists there are the better. Why continue the way we are? There are so many issues to face, this is a small step in the right direction, it would not be costly to implement and could revolutionise the roads for us all. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/aug/04/fewer-cars-not-electric-cars-beat-air-pollution-says-top-uk-adviser-prof-frank-kelly The attached article, courtesy of Guardian News & Media Ltd, argues that we need less cars of all types (including electric) on the roads: “Prof Frank Kelly said that while electric vehicles emit no exhaust fumes, they still produce large amounts of tiny pollution particles from brake and tyre dust, for which the government already accepts there is no safe limit. …Toxic air causes 40,000 early deaths a year in the UK" Time for a change.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kate Chamberlain

Increase Edinburgh Fringe National News CoverageEach morning many of us tune in to listen or watch the headlines of the day. BBC Breakfast news is a favourite with thousands of people tuning in each day. This is then followed by the weather report and a large section on sport. This is something I would like to see change. I would like to see better coverage of Arts & Cultural events happening across the UK, promoting Health and well being, community engagement and education. The Edinburgh Fringe is arguably the greatest Cultural event in the world and draws people from across the globe to see a wide range of performances and yet has not been mentioned during the peak times on national television. However, Wimbledon for example, was a daily feature throughout July, guest speakers on BBC Breakfast, Tennis activities and games throughout the show made constant reference to this event. Yet no mention is made to an event that has a much greater audience. ( 473,372 attended Wimbledon 2016, 2,475,143 tickets were sold for Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016). If you would like the BBC to increase its coverage of the Edinburgh Fringe, informing us of the wide range of acts; street performances, comedy, music, dance, theatre, magic - the impact the festival has so much more then please sign this petition and let's change how the arts is reported in the media!16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Louise Swindell
