• Release or resentence ISSP prisoners
Aswell as the financial cost of keeping someone in prison and all the other associated costs it is inhumane not to know if you will ever get out not to be able to tell your children when mummy or daddy can come home the punishment passes like a ripple effect through the family

  • Relatives rights to Legal Aid for Inquests.
These bodies bring in the best legal representation, often paid for by the public purse. In most cases relatives are left to fend for themselves at a time when they are still grieving for their loved ones. Relatives usually have limited means and little knowledge of legal procedures and will find the inquest intimidating and confusing. Most people will be shocked to find, as I did, that although you wish to represent your loved one you have no disclosure rights, requests to the court are often either ignored or misinterpreted. Without legal representation an expert witnesses will not take instructions to provide expert opinions and analysis to support the family’s case. Many relatives like me are struggling to understand a death which could have been avoided at the same time they are trying to come to terms with a recent bereavement. They are unaware of the types of inquest available such as the standard UK inquest or the more in depth and investigative EU Article 2 Inquest. Coroners, although supposedly independent, are often familiar with the other party’s legal representatives and in some cases have worked in the same legal practice. In some cases the coroner works with the state to secure a quick verdict leaving the relatives facing decades of work to secure the truth. We live in a society where criminals have more rights than victims or their families and I believe this injustice needs reversing. Legal Aid funding should be extended to serve bereaved families who deserve to know the truth about how their relative died. http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/grieving-widower-howard-denby-tried-13265128 http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/calls-inquiry-call-over-suicide-6926557 http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/carol-denby-killed-herself-after-6981544 http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/fathers-despair-delays-cps-review-9682318 http://www.itv.com/news/wales/2013-01-14/robbie-powell-death-report-redactions-uncovered-by-wales-this-week/ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4393976/Asthma-girl-s-parents-call-unlawful-death-ruling.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4393976/Asthma-girl-s-parents-call-unlawful-death-ruling.html This is important because for the relatives they need closure and only the truth will give them this and for society in general we have seen too many cover up's and as a consequence many more innocent people have suffered when the truth has been hidden. The loss of Legal Aid has disadvantaged the majority with justice and truth only available to those who can afford to buy their version of it.

  • Give a mother and her children a second chance. DONT BREAK THIS BOND!
The woman I am writing about has been living in the U.K. Since 1998 and has two sons who were both born here, whom she dotes on. She made a mistake which she regrets deeply and has nightmares about over 6 years later. However if anyone was ever a reformed character, she certainly is! She has made massive progress during her sentence, taking courses that enable her to work for the NHS, attending therapeutic programs, finding religion and being a central support figure for other prisoners. It would be significantly emotionally damaging, not only for her friends and family, but most of all for her two young sons. It is a human right to family life. If she were to be deported this would not only breach her right to a family life, it would also take that basic human right away from her two innocent children. No one on this earth is prefect. When given a second chance people can achieve great things. Even though they may have had the odds stacked against them. If you beleive people can change. If you beleive a child deserves a mother and if you appreciate human rights then please sign this petition. Thank you.

  • END ACID VIOLENCE IN THE U.K.
National governments hold the responsibility to introduce and implement law and policies to protect our fundamental human rights in a cosmopolitan city like London. One of the reasons that acid attacks occur is due to cheap and easy availability of acid in the UK. The state has a due diligence obligation to prevent acid violence on our streets by enforcing tighter regulation of acid sales as well as enacting criminal laws to punish perpetrators. Prevention should start at schools by educating and working with youth to promote respectful relationships and gender equality. Research helps us to understand the causes and effects of acid violence to identify practical and feasible solutions to prevent such attacks whilst taking account of the impact this has on our trade and economy as a whole. We are asking for change in policies and laws that strike a fair and reasonable balance to protect the public whilst being considerate of the rights and duties of our traders, but ultimately our core aim is to punish the perpetrators of this callous act and promote a zero tolerance policy.

  • Change the laws of next of kin status
Until it happened to me I didn't realize after 28 years together the last 12 as my partners full time carer in that 12 years my partners family had no contact with us her mother then took legal advice to prove I wasn't legal next of kin. People who had not even asked how she was or did we need any help for 12 years were her next of kin I had to fight for a portion of her ashes too from my hospital bed where I Was seriously ill with a life threatening illness. As the law currently stands you have to be married or civil partners neither of which we could do because my partner had severe mental health issues, social anxiety syndrome and agoraphobia. I know for a fact a lot of people are in the very same position I am even if you are classed as next of kin on their medical records it means nothing if they die. Also if you split from your husband/wife and do not divorce they are still legally your next of kin and can demand all your possessions even if they were bought by someone else. Also you can end up homeless if the property is in the deceased persons name. Please sign and share this because you never know what is around the corner

  • Child support from absent parents
This is important because a child's well being needs to come first. A child doesn't choose to be put here or choose to have an absent parent just toss them to the side. We need to teach the next generation that we stand up to our responsibilitys. It takes 2 people to create a child so therefore 2 people are responsible. It's important that the parent that has full time care is taken seriously, which at present we are not.

  • Suspension of arms sales to Saudi Arabia
In Yemen the epidemic of cholera is killing one child every 10 minutes and the death rate will increase. The war with Saudi Arabia prevents the deployment by external charities of medical and food supplies. The ban is intended to demonstrate that the British people hold Saudi Arabia responsible for the worsening situation. Britain shares this responsibility through arms deals and the situation brings discredit on our people on an historic scale. The people must express their horror of this situation.

  • state pension age
Most people now in their 40's have been affected by a state pension age rise from 66 to 67, but now, today, the government wants you to work until you are aged 68. This has been pushed forward years earlier than originally proposed. It was to be implemented in 2044 but will now be implemented between 2037-2039. This will have a direct impact on all UK taxpayers currently aged between 39 and 47 who were born between 06/04/1970 - 05/04/1978 - a total of 6 million people in the UK working population paying taxes and national insurance contributions. People within this bracket have already had their state pension age pushed forward 1 year by this government in it's current tenure which is punishment enough. You should be entitled to retire and enjoy the benefits of retirement at 67 without moving the goalposts. This opportunistic government has not only upped your age before you can claim back for your contributions - now it wants another year from you. I want to see the UK taxpayers protected by applying legislation that only allows one change to retirement age in a persons working age. 1 working career = 1 change not punishment. Please lets get this voted for and debated in Parliament.
